Capcom is deep into the development of this game which probably has taken several years.

With the Switch they probably just got development kits last year, also after the Wii U, Capcom doesn't really trust Nintendo that much hence why their initial offerings are all ports. The company isn't on the best of ground as is after the last few years without a major non Monster Hunter success, diverting assets to a Switch version is something the suits are wary of.

Also real talk, the Switch maybe there safety net if this fails to meet expectations and they want to return to original MH game play on a system where they may not have to spend as much (or get away with claiming they can not) in looks or AI.

Well said.  I didn't even think about the Wii U factor, nor the fact that Capcom isn't in the best of states financially.  We don't know if this Switch train will keep up at this pace - or at least close to it - for the next few years or not.
