Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo communications director indicates that Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon are 2018 titles

I think it depends how early Gamefreak started on the new generation after Sun and Moon and how early they got their dev kits. 2018 is somewhat possible. Also maybe this is the 'remake' generation on Switch? Which means they can hold off on a new generation and just create a game like Pearl and Diamond in HD with a reimagining of the game.

2007: Diamond and Pearl (new generation)

2009: Platinum ('third' game)

2010: Gold and Silver (remakes)

2011: Black and White (new generation)

2012: Black and White 2 ('third' game)

(no remakes)

2013: X and Y (new generation)

2014: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire (remakes)

(no third game)

2016: Sun and Moon (new generation)

2017: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon ('third game')

(no remakes announced yet)

OK, flip the script. It Metroid and Pokemon are not big holiday 2018 titles, what are then?

Animal Crossing, Mario Maker 2, 5mash, 2D Zelda, whatever the hell Retro is doing. There are many options.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

NNID: Slarvax - Steam: Slarvax - Friend Code:  SW 7885-0552-5988

I'd take it with a grain of salt. If it does happen, those would be killer titles no doubt.

I don't think a few days were enough to change their plans.
If they actually intended on bringing those games in 2018 they would have said it so. But no, we heard, instead, "started development" or "now in development".

I don't even think a year would be enough for Pokemon. At least, not this time, seeing as how they are still busy with the 3DS games.

But that was what E3 should have been for: use the hype and media to your advantage.
Sure, they will reveal more of their 2018 plans. But unless they come out with a repeat of a january's presentation, an announcement here and there won't have the same weight.

To be fair, the Pokemon Company guy did say that the game was likely to come out in a bit over a year, which would put it in Holiday 2018.  And keep in mind, we don't know how many people are working on US and UM, those may have pretty small teams.  And on top of that, they could have begun HD asset development before Sun and Moon even launched.  We don't know enough about the inner workings of Gamefreak.  I mean shoot, we didn't even know they had a team working on that Tembo game until it was announced.

Like I said, Metroid is the most doubtful, just due to the nature of the game.

I believe they don't want to make the same mistake they did in 2013 and what Sony has done to themselves now:  announce a lot of far off games and then wind up repeating yourself.  So we'll see. Directs are becoming more and more common knowledge and I think Nintendo likes the lack of competition that having their own announcement events brings.

It's true that we don't know a lot; Anything could happen.
But the truth is, if Nintendo knew they could bring the game in 2018, they would have said it (they know what we don't know, after all).

Same goes for Metroid: if they knew they could bring out the game next year, we would know. More, it would mean the game was advanced to a point where they could even show a trailer, at least.

Also, i saw on Gonintendo, that Nintendo reached out and set things straight:
"No change in what we announced last week, which is that those two games are coming, but they have no specifically announced release window/year."
See? It was the rep that made a mistake.

Sony get a bad rep for how they manage things, but if you go check their 2013 E3 presentation you'll be surprised as most of what Sony revealed was for 2013/2014 (i checked!).
I think that "stigma" arose from a few games they announced that have not yet come out and suddenly, it's how Sony does things.

The difference between a ND and an E3 presentation is that not only you have expectations/hype that is through the roof, you'll have non-Nintendo owners who are more open to Nintendo news. But most of all, you have the non-gaming media covering the event, which doesn't happen with NDs.
Until E3 stops being the biggest stage of the year, NDs will always be secondary in importance.

Yep! This is the point I was trying to say.

Pokemon is definitely in 2018. Metroid can be in 2018 especially if it was meant to be on Wii U or they have started working on it months or a year before Switch released.

I dont think we will expect another Zelda, 3D Mario and Splatoon in 2018. So it means that Nintendo needs a new set of heavy hitters to do the job.

Pretty sure Pokemon Switch will be 2018, so even without Metroid, the lineup is already really good. If Metroid releases in 2018, then 2018 would definitely have a really strong lineup

No, it's actually a new mechanic where you have to change your pokemon every other turn when you have a pokemon battle

I was just making a joke, i thought the role-reversal was funny.  I was picturing something like Mario Chase.
