Forums - Gaming - From a true gamer point of view, should I really buy a Switch?

I think the reason I'm giving it so much thought is that I love Nintendo games but I love fighting games as much, been a KoF / SF / Blazblue player since a long time really made me fall in love with the gender. I wasn't really having any doubt to buy a Switch until I saw the E3 and there's no traditional fighting game coming to Switch... Arms looks fun and we sure get a new Smash announced next year but no new traditional fighting game (Blazblue Centralfiction is a port of a 2015 game.) I was hoping for at least DB FighterZ to come to the Switch as well as Ps4 XBONE, but that dind't happen.

Portability is a big point since I'm always going from place to place but I do have free time to sit down everyday and play at home.

I'm the biggest fan of Zelda I know and Metroid is my 3rd favorite franchize (Persona being the 2nd)

I'm not that Ok with lack of 3rd party since I see a bunch of cool first party games but none of them are traditional fighters.

Money is not an issue, I can save monthly to buy  a 60$ game, even 2.

Fighting games are coming in droves to the Switch. There's already SF2: The Final Challengers and Arms, all the old SNK Neo Geo fighters, Pokken Tournament in September, an untitled BlazBlue is incoming and a slew of lesser-known fighters too, and Smash certainly will also come in some future. So on fighters it's basically win some, loose some.

Why can't you buy both consoles if you have enough money each month to spare for 2 60$ games?

That's a really tough one. There's good fighting games on Switch already, with ARMS, KoF '98, and Street Fighter 2, and Pokken Tournment and Pocket Rumble are incoming. BUT, you'll miss out on Tekken 7, Street Fighter V, Injustice 2, Mortal Kombat XL, etc. Honestly, you might just go with whatever console you can get cheaper. Both have good options for fighting games.

Not right now. I would sideline it for months after Zelda cause there's nothing else
..holidays however, another matter. Xenoblade 2 and SMO? Worth it then IMO. That's when I plan on getting one.

edit: if it's about picking ps4 or switch now definitely ps4. and that'd remain the answer for years if not forever cause the Switch is going to have a really hard time matching that library.

Go get a PS4, you will have a hard time trying to find a switch available.

We reap what we sow

If you like Nintendo IPs sure, only place to get them.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

If I buy both a Switch and a Ps4 I will have like 5 games at most per console, plus paying 80$ every year for online services is a bunch of money for me... I can do it but I'm afraid that will leave me with no games in either console to enjoy it to the fullest!

In terms of investment and library, PS4 would be the way to go.

Though it's not fair since the Switch hasn't been out long, PS4 is proven.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

It´s so tough when we want to have to consoles but we can just afford one.... isn´t it?

Well... the game lineup for the Switch is really promising.... if you like Nintendo franchises, local multiplayer, Jrpgs and indie games, then buying the Switch is a great choice. And, as a plus, it can be played anywhere and games don´t require installation.

But... if you really like Western action games, FPS and Fighting games, then the PS4 would be a better choice. Games require installation and that sometimes can be annoying when your game collection start to grow.... but the game library is fabulous, there are games for everyone and you can enjoy a good amount of Jrpgs too.

I don´t know exactly what your gaming tastes are like, but as an owner of PS4 and WiiU, and a longtime Nintendo enthusiast, I think it would be better to get a PS4 now and wait a few months until the Switch get more games (and, of course, when you feel able to afford a second console)

P.S... Persona 5 is an excellent game well worth the investiment.

Have fun!

if you are a hardcore gamer no...if you are collecting gaming then yes.

If you have a PS3 get Persona 5 for that, that's what I did! Then buy a Switch :)
