The original Star Wars trilogy (A New Hope, Return of The Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back) is better than Lord of The Rings, but not by much, however the new Star Wars films (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) are awfull, a complete and utter letdown of the franchise, ive rewatched the original trilogy numerous times, ive never rewatched the newer films.

For me Tolkien in general is a thousand times better than Star Wars
but if you talk about movies ... i still like the LOTR trilogy a little more, but i like the empire strikes back more than any movie of LOTR

Serenity.

I'd probably take Starwars (original trilogy) over Lord of the Rings. The rings movies were some incredibly well done epics. But put them all together and you have about 54 hours of epic battle after similar and somewhat repetative epic battle. It's the kind of thing you have to see at least once, but I couldn't imagine watching any of the Rings movies more than 2 or 3 times.
