No one read the NeoGAF response to the article before copying and pasting it here from their site?

Smarthouse really isn't a bastion of correct and accurate consumer information...

Why the Xbox failed

BR Disc based Xbox coming

Xbox handheld "Confirmed"

Microsoft refuse to answer our questions over RRoD

Halo 3 cooks consoles, rapes small children

Peter Moore quits over horrible xbox failure

Microft failing, tries to gag us from reporting the truth

Microsoft is arrogant

I take offence at that, I posted this thread here before the one on Neogaf was posted.

What's with people shooting the messenger here when they don't like the article?

As for the site's legitimacy, it seems it's pretty shaky, but I wasn't to know that when I posted the thread. Besides, I already posted that I didn't think 360 was going to be dropped in Australia anytime soon. Still, the fact remains that the 360 has been selling less than PS3 and Wii this year, MS even admitted that.

Because there are a crapload of sites with fake-news and made-up stories just to generate traffic. If you are gonna open a thread with news, check if the website sounds legit, the sources quoted, etc. Otherwise the forums get drowned in useless noise. Just look at this thread - it's now littered by trolls. If you want the forums to be a proper place of discussion be sure the items discussed are proper. Just because they have an internet domain and a site design doesn't make them a reputable source.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Dude! You completely contradict yourself in the third paragraph!!!!

I don't think I did, I just showed all big XBox games saw 360 sequels early within its lifecycle pushing many fans into buying a 360. But after this year there are no big Xbox games left to see sequels. And for the PS3 a different strategy was taken.

Mass Effect and Bioshock are Unreal engine based games and so a PS3 port makes sense, We know Bioshock was a multiplatform PS3 game until Microsoft bought its exclusivity, they performed well like new PS3 franchices. They aren't really 360 exclusives though, there are and will be PC versions.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Don't be ridiculous, how do you suggest I check that a handful of their articles out of thousands weren't true? Go through every one? Even some of those were widely reported on other sites, such as BR Xbox 360.

It's not as if this is some little fanboy site, it's a major Australian website, and this article got picked up by many other news sites and even brought out a rebuttal from Microsoft, so it's completely legitimate for discussion.

Mike, the Bravia deal ended in January, I noted that in the LTD above. Sony said 20k of those were sold in 2007. At the end of the day 360 and PS3 sold pretty similar in 2007, although I expect PS3 to sell more in 2008.

I know the deal ended 2007.

From PS3Vault regarding 2007 sales:

“On the Bravia PS3 offer, we’re now up to 28,000-plus - these are audited numbers from Sony. They have taken about a 30 percent market in flat screens for the month of January off the back of that promotion,” said SCE Australia boss Michael Ephraim.

Digital life:

"The install base for PS3 in Australia is now 190,000, which includes 30,000 consoles given away with Bravia television sets in a post-Christmas promotion that dramatically lifted sales of Sony's LCD TVs and saw Sony Computer Entertainment scrambling to get sufficient console stocks to satisfy demand."

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Well, your source clearly states the promotion occured after Christmas.

And this one clearly states that the promotion helped them take 30% of the flat screen market in January from the promotion.

You keep posting sources which contradict your argument, but thanks.

Recent interview with Xbox Product Marketing Manager Jeremy Hinton:

But if we look at recent GfK figures, weekly sales of the machine are now consistently lagging behind PS3 and Nintendo are selling two to four times as many Wii's as 360s. Are you disappointed with your current numbers in Australia?

We're not, no. We're significantly ahead of where we planned to be for the year. It's all about timing your run as well. January and February are certainly not large, significant sales periods, we don't mind being number three in those periods if we're picking the larger periods to be number one in. If you look at the first full year of next-gen in this market our lead over PS3 has only diminishing very, very slightly. If that trend continues it would still be quite a long time before our install base will be surpassed so no, small periods like this don't faze us whatsoever. If you're not performing during November and December, then you're in trouble.

Yes and these sales are not included in the GfK figures above. Just wanted to point out the install base is 28k+-30K larger than reported by GfK regarding 2007 end of year promotion sales.

PS3 vs 360 sales

We all know they're not included, my point is that some of the Bravia bundles occurred in 2008, not 2007. Around 20k were in 2007, and 10k in 2008. If you want to add them to GfK 2007 figures you can only add 20k, not 30k.

Without any new big game releases the Xbox360 is selling just fine at the moment. Besides, theres pretty much only one big name franchise left for the PS3 this year - MGS4. The FPS exclusives really have to make a case that they have something to offer that COD4 doesn't! That beast might hit 10,000,000+ sales and growing by the time Christmas rolls around. Furthermore, since the exclusives this year are more action/rpg centric anyway... They will be targeting a different subset of gamers. One that hasn't had a fair share of games just yet. The FPS crowd has plenty to chew on for the moment in anycase. I would argue as well that since Microsoft tapped that market early, they have the lions share of potential customers in that genre. Look at how Rainbow 6 vegas 2 did for instance. I've always believed that friends are the biggest influence on console purchases. I see it on these forums all the time, people saying that all their friends own PS3's or Xbox 360's. People who aren't in the know, will be influenced by their friends when they see games in say the 360 section that may interest them. You mention the PC - Now why would PC gamers WANT to get a PS3 any more than a Wii? I would argue that they would want it less than a Wii. Its not like graphical prowess will be a big factor, nor would they want to play FPS games on a damn controller. There is a greater market than just hardcore PC gamers you realise? For these people it actually makes MORE sense to get an Xbox360. They still get some of their favourite games, heck even strategy games! I must look up whether or not keyboard and mouse works on those. "PS3? I would rather buy an 8800gtx!" - That was one of my friends and he did buy an 8800gtx

Tease.
