For 2007 the PS3 had an install base of 187K (Sony), VGChartz now has this figure at 162K. The first figure includes PS3/Bravia deals not counted by GfK.
If you guys go look at the article again you will see that it has been updated where ms says these claims are untrue. Lol website b@ullcr@p that just wants to get hits. Last year it was all about the ps3 and how it was going to fail this year its the 360 and next year mark my words it be the wii lol.

Lol. I hope you weren't trying to provide credence to the smarthouse "report's" claims MikeB. If you were, you linked to the wrong article.
Some of iTWire's choice quotes:
In criticizing the Smarthouse report:
- "Sadly, that was it. No more quotes from retailers, no more evidence that the survey went beyond speaking to two unidentified people."
- "Page two of Richard’s article goes on to quote a European Sony Playstation representative who talks up the PS3’s upcoming 2008 software library, and the PS3’s network gaming capabilities, something that Microsoft would no doubt do too, had Richards given them the chance before using a third party quote to dub the Xbox 360 ‘dead’."
Quotes from Microsoft whom iTWire actually thought to contact, unlike Smarthouse:
- "For core gamers we have titles like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Too Human, Halo Wars etc, while casual or potential gamers will enjoy the likes of Banjo Kazooie, Guitar Hero 4, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution, as well as a number of other really exciting titles we haven’t announced yet.”
- "Since early 2006, over 360,000 Xbox 360 consoles have sold in Australia and New Zealand, with over 320,000 sold into the Australian market alone."
- "Over 2 million units of Xbox 360 software have sold in the Australia and New Zealand markets, which Cidade says is “nearly double our next-gen competitors combined”
- "Another interesting stat is that the “Xbox 360 has an unprecedented attach rate of 7 games per console in Australia alone”."
iTWire's conslusion:
"Finally, Cidade notes that: “Over 10 million members on Xbox LIVE globally – more than half are subscribed to the premium Gold service”.
So, is the Xbox 360 dead? I don’t think so."
I might add that in my experience iTWire is a big Sony fan, so this means something coming from them.

I take offence at that, I posted this thread here before the one on Neogaf was posted.
What's with people shooting the messenger here when they don't like the article?
As for the site's legitimacy, it seems it's pretty shaky, but I wasn't to know that when I posted the thread. Besides, I already posted that I didn't think 360 was going to be dropped in Australia anytime soon. Still, the fact remains that the 360 has been selling less than PS3 and Wii this year, MS even admitted that.
@ starcraft
Business people in relevations like these usually want to remain anonymous regarding quotes, because Microsoft has an OS monopoly within the industry, so they have to continue doing business with them. It's not the first time we heard retailers buy 360 stock because Microsoft demands it.

Thanks, I thought MS would issue a rebuttal as this story was being picked up by other news outlets.
So MS sold over 21,000 Australian 360s in Q1 2008, for reference they sold 20,000 in Q1 2007, so clearly this article is pretty stupid, they've actually sold more 360s this year than last. In New Zealand they sold around 3,000 in Q1 2008, compared to 3,070 in Q1 2007, so pretty similar. It does confirm that MSNZ's claim of "approaching 50,000" in NZ was slightly misleading, and must have referred to shipped units.
I notice some discussing Gamecube, so I'll post some LTDs:
PS2: 2,200,000+* (Q4 2007)
NDS: 988,168 (Q4 2007)
XBX: 838,410 (Q3 2006)
PSP: 362,000+* (Q4 2007)
360: 320,000 (Q1 2008)
Wii: 293,000 (Q4 2007) [Passed 300k in Jan]
NGC: 162,936 (Q3 2006)
PS3: 155,000** (Q4 2007)
SDC: 24,727 (Q3 2006) [Final LTD]
*PS2 & PSP are missing first 7 weeks of Q4 2007 data.
** PS3 does not include around 30,000 units which were "given away" with Bravia TVs in a promotion.
All figures GfK Australia.

The Australian PS3 figures include the 28000 PS3's that were given away with HDTV purchases in December 2007. I bet parents got there brand new HDTV Sony 40 Inch and get a free PS3 for kids as Xmas presents on 4 years interest free terms with no deposit. woohoo sales of PS3 go up.

I'm currently working on a case study about Microsoft using monopoly leverage to extrapolate illegal advantages, so I fully understand what you are talking about.
The reason your wrong is your basing it on an unreputtable report from unreputtable people that has quite simply been debunked.
