Lol. I hope you weren't trying to provide credence to the smarthouse "report's" claims MikeB. If you were, you linked to the wrong article.
Some of iTWire's choice quotes:
In criticizing the Smarthouse report:
- "Sadly, that was it. No more quotes from retailers, no more evidence that the survey went beyond speaking to two unidentified people."
- "Page two of Richard’s article goes on to quote a European Sony Playstation representative who talks up the PS3’s upcoming 2008 software library, and the PS3’s network gaming capabilities, something that Microsoft would no doubt do too, had Richards given them the chance before using a third party quote to dub the Xbox 360 ‘dead’."
Quotes from Microsoft whom iTWire actually thought to contact, unlike Smarthouse:
- "For core gamers we have titles like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Too Human, Halo Wars etc, while casual or potential gamers will enjoy the likes of Banjo Kazooie, Guitar Hero 4, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution, as well as a number of other really exciting titles we haven’t announced yet.”
- "Since early 2006, over 360,000 Xbox 360 consoles have sold in Australia and New Zealand, with over 320,000 sold into the Australian market alone."
- "Over 2 million units of Xbox 360 software have sold in the Australia and New Zealand markets, which Cidade says is “nearly double our next-gen competitors combined”
- "Another interesting stat is that the “Xbox 360 has an unprecedented attach rate of 7 games per console in Australia alone”."
iTWire's conslusion:
"Finally, Cidade notes that: “Over 10 million members on Xbox LIVE globally – more than half are subscribed to the premium Gold service”.
So, is the Xbox 360 dead? I don’t think so."
I might add that in my experience iTWire is a big Sony fan, so this means something coming from them.
