Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer is a fraud, (cross play)

Yeah. MS just sucks in general. It's long, well documented history of sleezy behavior has carried over to the offspring, and the Xbox brand seemingly cannot do any type of promotion without either bending the truth, or outright lying. This is NOT a recent phenomenon. The XBO, S, and X are fine pieces of hardware. This Nov, for the first time since 2001, they can stake a claim to have the best hardware. For the flak the software end takes, it's also just fine. The online component is often touted as the best. Is that still true? IDK, but it's obviously fine too. But as a company, they're sooo hard to like, and their diminishing position in the industry is a reflection of this. There's always something unsavory oozing out of them. I don't think they'll ever return to the success they had with the 360, and even that high water mark was marred with controversy. With regard to Phil specifically, you can't trust anybody who doesn't have a belly button.

Rocket league crossplay doesn't benefit us on ps4. I don't allow my search to include pc players and the servers are still jam packed. Adding xbox players doesn't benefit us. And if you're friend is on pc there is no way to squad up and play together. So the only benefit is boosting service numbers which only really helps MS because they've a smaller playerbase.

How exactly does MS make more money if PS4 is included in Minecraft cross play? They already sell the game on PS4.

And if it's all about Minecraft, why are Xbone/Switch/PC users all going to be able to play Rocket League together?

There are way too many FUD Xbox threads on this forum since the E3 conference LOL.

lol, whatever. Spin it however you like, but in the end Switch/PC/XBone users will be able to play together while Sony decided to keep their users from joining the party.

But face it, business is business and the only reason why Phil wants cross-play (now) is because Microsoft owns Minecraft.  Simple as that.

There were times before when cross play was discussed but MS rejected due to their policy. (ie FFXIV)  But now MS sees a way to benefit and make money so now they flipped.  Of course, this puts Sony on the spot and why would they now that they're on a hot streak.  MS has nothing to lose and what better way to do this than now now that they own Minecraft.

I can't deny Sony said some weird sh*t about cross play recently.  Instead they should embrace cross-play but only to games that aren't owned by MS/competitors.  Also Sony gave Rocket League free to PS Plus members so why not go the extra mile and support cross play for that at least too.

Anyways, my main point is that Phil Spencer isn't a saint for wanting cross play.  He just wants right it now because its more money for MS with Minecraft.

I'm sure this will keep going back and forth where there'll be a time again when Sony will want cross play and MS wont.  Each company waiting for the moment that's best for them.

Sucks for the gamers, but just like exclusive games, its just business.

How about Rocket League? I heard its the same as well with PS4 not joining the party.

When you can't beat Nintendo, you go for the next target.

Sony might need to pay MS a fee to support the feature. As I said, this might explain why Nintendo might be charging for online play on the Switch.

No MS and, by extension, Phil Spencer are not saints. And yes MS has held a similar stance in the past. But this is an opportunity to poke some holes into these walled gardens and if that takes Minecraft, a MS owned IP, to do it I say it's a good thing. I'm not saying either company has to completely open up their online ecosystems but it can only be good for gamers to open up cross platform play where it makes sense.

And for PS oweners of MInecraft (such as my kids), this absolutely will be beneficial. It'll ensure they have an up-to-date full featured version that the other platform users will have and it'll expand their community of players. Sony absolutely must jump on this opportunity. Regardless of MS's motivations.

I very much doubt that Nintendo would pay MS for cross play.  If anything, MS just has a better relationship with Nintendo then they do MS.

When all said and done, it would be good if all systems had cross play.

Multiple devs have already said they can code their games to allow cross play without any monetary requirements from any of the online service providers.  Its a policy situation, nothing more.
