Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer is a fraud, (cross play)

K he's not a fraud, but just doing his job (which feels like someone a fraud would do)

But face it, business is business and the only reason why Phil wants cross-play (now) is because Microsoft owns Minecraft.  Simple as that.

There were times before when cross play was discussed but MS rejected due to their policy. (ie FFXIV)  But now MS sees a way to benefit and make money so now they flipped.  Of course, this puts Sony on the spot and why would they now that they're on a hot streak.  MS has nothing to lose and what better way to do this than now now that they own Minecraft.

I can't deny Sony said some weird sh*t about cross play recently.  Instead they should embrace cross-play but only to games that aren't owned by MS/competitors.  Also Sony gave Rocket League free to PS Plus members so why not go the extra mile and support cross play for that at least too.

Anyways, my main point is that Phil Spencer isn't a saint for wanting cross play.  He just wants right it now because its more money for MS with Minecraft.

I'm sure this will keep going back and forth where there'll be a time again when Sony will want cross play and MS wont.  Each company waiting for the moment that's best for them.

Sucks for the gamers, but just like exclusive games, its just business.

But Minecraft is already on PS4. They make money either way, no?

Are there any business laws that would stop other companies from withholding content to others platforms?

How many threads on this topic do we actually need?

I don't get what people like with him.

Apparently a lot? There seems to be a lot of hate generated towards him recently, but aren't almost all company heads frauds in some way? I love Reggie but he can spew a ton of PR crap from time to time.

If I'm not mistaken the way Cross-play works on the switch is that Nintendo players are forced to essentially sign into Xbox Live on the backend. While this might be fine and dandy for Nintendo (and may explain Nintendo charging for online with the Switch) surely you can't expect Sony to accept, and possibly pay a fee to Microsoft to facilitate and proliferate cross-play on a Microsoft-controlled environment.

All company heads are going to say and do what they feel is best for business at the time they say and do it.  In Phil's case the company he works for championed (exclusivity deals) and downplayed (cross play) things while they were ahead of PS last gen.  Now that they are behind they are downplaying the exclusivity deals they championed and championing the cross play they downplayed.  That's enough to stick in someone's craw.

Of course, Sony is doing the exact same thing on the opposite end.  But they don't really have a face for their company the way MS has Phil.  At least, not one that sticks out to me.

People like PR men? Is he one?

It's usually best to take these things as the corporations saying them not just one or 2 at the top.

Hmm, pie.

But Rocket League.
