Forums - Gaming - Phil Spencer: relationship with Nintendo is “incredibly strong”

Nintendo and Microsoft have buildings virtually across the street from each other in Redmond Washington:

I think that's where the kind gestures originate from.

I wonder if the two have office parties with each other from time to time? A giant room where they both play video games. Sounds like great fun!

They've had to come together on things like Minecraft and putting DKC games on the VC. Also Microsoft actually released a Viva Piñata game on DS. Which is cool and puts it ahead of EA, but still, "incredibly strong" seems like an exaggeration.  Unless he's laying the groundwork for becoming a second-party dev for the Switch after Xbox One runs its course.

Never since Xbox is still a valuable brand for MS, not to mention that the Switch is still a weak console and wouldn't be able to handle Gears 4 and Halo 6 especially when 60 fps is key for the gameplay.

I wasn't being serious.

I think Microsoft want's to bang Nintendo.

He's in it too deep.  I'm starting to think he might believe some of the things he's been saying.  Some outlandish statements this past year or so.

Boy, Spencer is just frantically throwing anything against a wall to see if it will stick these past few days. Unfortunately for him, it seems to only be working on the same small group that tries to defend his words.

Nah, I think he wants to be in the situation that Layton described the PS4 as being in.  Where gamers are buying both a PS4 and Switch.  Of course, launching a $499 console that doesn't run every game in "True 4K" isn't going to change their mind.

Way to spoil a warm moment, guys.

I think if not a full blown partnership, MS and Nintendo should consider a "non-aggression pact" as it were where they help each other a bit.

MS gives the Switch a Halo game or two, Rare games for Virtual Console, in return XBox/Windows PC maybe receives some older Metroid Prime titles in 4K.

Nintendo gets the better deal because they have the more valuable franchises (Halo for Metroid is a win for Nintendo), MS gets some nice PR. They're both getting kinda fucked by Sony IMO with Sony pushing devs into exclusivity deals, so they should strike back a bit.

I can imagine great things happening.
One could help other plataform, and lots of players could choose the 2 plataforms, in a simbiose system.
-Nintendo let VC(NES to GC) games on xbox, let xbox owners subscribe nintendo online service on xbox to earn the monthly games and play them online with xbox and switch users, and switch advertisement in xbox store, or even demos of switch games.
-Xbox publish rare games on switch(and maybe original xbox games) to run natively on switch, and stream xbox one to nintendo switch for live gold members.
lots of xbox one owners would lite to have a switch(where the complete experience of nintendo games are), and switch owners would like to have a xbox one(to play multiplat games on switch screen, good online infrastructure and achievments).
