Why does a next gen Xenoblade look worse than the previous one?

I think it might've started out as a 3DS game, the character art is reminiscent of 3DS style rpg's. Looks really low budget.

Wut?

What are you smoking?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I don't get how this game looks ugly... It looks like if Xcx had great character models...

Unless people have different opinions than yours, and the added bonus of being able to change your characters appearance through armor. Gotta give X the win on that.

If you look beyond the characters (and let's just be real, the faces specifically), the game as numerous technical advances over XCX and doesn't in any way look like a game that started out on the 3DS (literally impossible and a laughable notion) nor does it look low budget.  Dis the characters if you want, I get the style isn't everyone's cup of tea.  But don't make ignorant, objectively false statements based on that.

It does look rushed however, and is not trying to push a seemless sandbox. It is a step back easily when looking at what they were trying to accomplish and what this is.

We haven't seen how seamless it is yet.  Cities and interiors are still just as seamless.  But it not all being one sandbox isn't a necessary step back depending on what they do in those spaces.  XCX had one settlement, a big one but one.  Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has multiple.  The fluctuation in cloud ocean tides is cool.  The titans are moving as well and look like pretty elaborate forms vs even XCX's landscapes.

And it doesn't look rushed to me, given what has been accomplished.

Also, don't write off custom outfits yet.

Plus, customization through the Blades allowing on the fly class customization is cool

Didn't they want to accomplish a game with a stronger emphasis on story than XCX? Because that pretty much kills the idea of having a seamless sandbox.

Yes, when given the question why this was called Xenoblade Chronicles 2 they explained that this one would be more similar to the first game.

I've nearly 100%'d both Xenoblade and Xenoblade X. And after watching all that coverage of this in Treehouse, am I alone in thinking this looks terrible?

Battles look slow and got stale after watching 2-3 of them.

Characters seem, so far, very uninteresting. Not able to distinguish if this stems from my distaste of anime or if they're just wooden-cookie-cutter archetypes of jRPG characters.

Whether I'm alone in my prior two statements or not, I know we all agree on that voice acting at least.

Did you see all the coverage? I think it's pretty much the same pace, with more combo variety. It's just that the guy playing was kind of runing on automatic XD. Gameplay-wise I'd say the game is pretty refined. About character models, I had enough of that with XCX lol. I said before that those character models were horrific and I'm glad they're changing them into a more cartoony style. Also, I prefer the art style of this game over XCX.

I'm going to watch it all again when I get a chance.  But first impression, I pegged it as boring and very slow paced.

I don't know why people complain about how it looks, they confirmed that more polish will be going into the game in the coming months.

It looks good as it is, already.

Horrible character-design (this main character...the heroine...god, please no)
Horrible voice-acting (and of course, we will never get the VO)
Poor graphics ( Xeno X looks better, seriously)

Yeah, not really hyped for this game.
