No it wont.

Yes it will... if the PS4 reaches it's 78 million shipped forecast, by the same time frame PS2 will be at 71 million.

the thing about this comparison is that it ignores that PS2 was only available in Japan for about 8 months.

when comparing on a region to region basis, PS2 is well ahead of PS4.

Even given another entire year in ALL regions PS2 is only 10 million ahead on shipments. So I disagree.

Anyway Nintendo e3 is staaarting!

PS4 shipped 60 million as of March 2017, thats 3 years in Japan with an extra quarter in the west.

PS2 shipped 12.7 in Japan in 3 years, 29.53 in America & 24.56 in PAL in 3 years and 1 quarter.

Launches aligned PS2 was about 7 million ahead of PS4 as of the last shipment update.

PS4 has sold 7 million units in 5 months. That's a lot.

Let's not forget that the first five months of 2017 were crazy. I'm sure several of us are still backed up by at least a couple of games. I can fully see why so many PS4s sold, especially with a megaton like Horizon dropping at the end of February.

Gratulation :)

And dont forget all the japanese masterpieces lile Persona 5, Yakuza Zero, Nier Automata and Ni-Oh in the first months :) : D @LuckyTrouble

Cant wait of august - december, so many big west-and japan games coming. More than 17 million units are possible ? @2017

I've become part of that statistic since last year.

We dont live in a world of hypotheticals and *if this or that's* though.

Time aligned is just date to date.

PS4 is still tracking ahead of the PS2.

Aligning console sales is also very hard. If we truly aligned the consoles country to country PS2 is ahead of the Wii, but all alignments show Wii>PS4>PS2.

One reason PS2 had such great legs in sales is due to late launches in big markets.

Another reason for "record" sales for 8th gen consoles and Switch  is because they had more global launches then the older consoles.

it makes absolutely no sense to compare them the way most people do on this site.

the fact that PS2 was only available in Japan for the first 8 months needs to be taken into account for an accurate comparison.

how can someone say PS4 is doing better if each region is doing worse?

Lovely console numbers, lovely software numbers and attach ratio. It's all very lovely. With the pace continuing as it has, 100 million seems more realistic. Almost bet worthy.
