Forums - Gaming - Geoff Keighley: Scorpio to cost $499

Still getting day1 if true?

yes. 51 13.39%

no. 302 79.27%

maybe. 28 7.35%

Total:381

It does make sense (assuming he's not pulling a stunt). The Scorpio isn't just using an upclocked CPU and GPU. It uses a more advanced cooling system and the 4K drive is more expensive (not by a whole lot, but it still increases the BOM).

I personally don't see why Microsoft would rehearse with a fake price. If they'd do that it would mean they're expecting someone to leak stuff from the rehearsal, which would mean EVERYTHING they've rehearsed is at the risk of leaking. Geoff has also doubled down on the price.

Some people on various websites are also suggesting that Geoff might be leaking a fake, too-high price on purpose so people will be extra hyped when the real price is announed. Why would he do that? He'd be throwing his own credibility away just so Microsoft can have a 'wow' moment.

Another way to look at this is Microsoft told Geoff to leak the price ahead of the conference to soften the blow. Get all the disappointment out of the way before the conference rather than bearing the full brunt of it live.

It is as if Geoff Keighley is giving Sony a heads up to strategize

I don´t know. And I don´t care until I get a big ass 4K TV...

First of all, the R&D for Pro would be miles below that of the original PS4, seeing as it basically uses the same parts, only clocked up, etc.
Secondly, Yoshida said in an interview that Pro is selling more than they expected. In the very same interview he said that Slim is selling less than they expected, so it doesn't sound like he was blowing smoke up ppl's ass to make things sound better than they are. He didn't have to reveal that they miscalculated with the Slim.
I too thought Pro was an interesting idea as a choice, but I kept my expectations realistic, and said it would have 15-20% of baseline PS4 sales.
That is not bad considering the relatively low R&D costs, and the fact that they wanted to target an audience that mid generation feel that console graphics get outdated and start looking towards PC. This is all it was going to be all along. A nice choice on the side for a niche audience. Just because you had unrealistic expectations in this regard doesn't mean it's selling bad. If it meets or exceeds their expectations, it's doing what it was designed to do.

I agree with you.

The only caveat is that I belive Sony didn´t promoted the Pro as much as they could. The reveal was lackwarm almost burried in the news.
