Forums - Nintendo - Why is E.A so quiet on the Switch

Don't all EA games run on Frostbite now?

One of the developers said that they could have had Frostbite on the Switch for Fifa 18 but they didn't because they felt like a custom engine would be better for it in an interview by eurogamer.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-06-11-fifa-18-on-nintendo-switch-is-the-best-portable-fifa-ever

So I think EA is waiting to see if Fifa 18 sells well on the Nintendo Switch before bothering to put the Frostbite engine on it and then they can port more games over to it. I'm guessing they probably don't wanna waste time porting the engine for the Switch unless they know they're gonna be able to sell games on it.

Because they have no intention of giving it proper support? I thought this was a well established fact now after 4 generations running with shit support from this publisher, especially the last two gens were woeful.

I would really love the Sims 4 to be played on the go! Not the new shitty mobile game they announced

Same, I would really like a new console version of the Sims too, Especially as it's the only time Sims ever had any multiplayer.

Who cares? EA doesn't make good games. You might as well ask why HBO isn't airing reruns of Honey Boo Boo. EA's shovelware is the last thing Nintendo needs right now. Shovelware hurts brand image. How many people do you know that bought a Wii, a few shovelware titles, and then flat out stopped buying Nintendo games? There's an entire generation of casuals that see Nintendo as a trash tier console developer, because that's the impression the Wii's shovelware gave them.

Nintendo does need their sport titles. Other genres can be get somewhere else, but not the sports games.

Look at FIFA in Europe. Nintendo should have a FIFA NS bundle for the holidays.

If Nintendo put the effort in, they could make their own Sports title that would crush the sales of all other sports titles. Just look at how much Mario Kart annihilates the sales of other racing games.

I think the success of the Switch caught them completely by surprise, and thus had nothing in the pipeline to produce for the Switch other than Fifa

If the Switch continues to sell well, EA will produce games for it, they can't afford not to in face of their investors

They could do it, but they will like have to go beyond just a good Mario sport title to capture some of the FIFA audience. It would have to be semi-realistic and feature some kind of team dynamic.

Yeah, they'd have to ditch the Mario Sports stuff. Maybe if they based it on some more popular Sports Manga like EyeShield? Or what if they just made a no nonsense generic sports game without the cartoony graphics associated with Nintendo games? Would a sports fan buy a sports game if it didn't let them play as their favorite player? Does it really matter to have the same players/teams in a game as in real life?  Does EA's monopoly on league backing really matter? I mean, look what Sega did with the Dreamcast. Those Dreamcast sports games were pretty good right?
