Couple of words on Nintendo: I've known Nintendo to show game concepts at E3 with stated intentions of a game release and then never release them. Also they have had rumored games, not officially announced, known to be in development to almost completion that never saw the light of day, sometimes to appear in pieces of other titles or show it's face years later in an unofficial manner. I think Nintendo's reveals are held with great secrecy and professionalism. They do not "officially" reveal a title unless it is almost ready for release. They evaluate each title to ensure that it is not better suited for the next platform before making a decision. Nintendo, while not consistent in every area, at least has a good amount of control over their resources and decisions.
Sony is similar, but I do know there has been a couple of instances where they straight out canceled an expected title. Cannot recall names at the moment. It is rare though.
