Forums - Gaming - What do you rather have: Scorpio in 2017 or real Xbox 2 in 2018

I rather has

Scorpio with Jaguar, Polaris, 12 gigs of ram 56 28.43%

Xbox 2 with Ryzen, Vega, 16 gigs of ram 141 71.57%

Total:197

To choose between the 2 is to choose between a mid gen upgrade slash future next gen platform, and a true next gen platform with XBO BC

Me I'd rather have Xbox 2 in late 2018, why not just start over and do what the 360 back then, get a year head start on PS5. Instead of being shackled by 2013 hardware and act as its 4K equivalent I wish they'd just go with a new platform. By the time they pump out exclusives, say 2 years time, it's going to be outdated against the PS5. It's going to be bad for multiplat games too, the PS5 will have more than 9gigs of ram for games, the baseline will be Scorpio meaning games won't utilize the extra juice on the PS5 for bigger and denser worlds. Just like how this gen multiplats used Xbone's 1.3TF for the graphics and the extra 0.5 on PS4 for higher settings and resolution. Publishers wont abandon Scorpio and have PS5 be the baseline even after Scorpio 2 would come out 4 years later, due to the install base already built on Scorpio 1. This disruption is going to be really bad for the industry, it's going to mean multiplats held back by 2017 hardware well into the 2020s.

Specs wise the Xbox 2 would be truly next gen, compared to Scorpio: Polaris GPU, Jaguar CPU, 12GB GDDR5 ram

Xbox 2: VEGA GPU, RYZEN CPU, 16GB GDDR5X/HBM2

Would you rather not wait 18 months and have this? A fresh start, 5 years after the launch of a console that didn't meet sales expectations. The Wii U failed, 5 years later Nintendo is seemingly making a comeback. A clear message: new console, new gen. With a timely announcement MS would have momentum all through 2018 by teasing the next gen games early, like Sony did at the announcement of PS4 (KZ SF, Driveclub, inFamous, The Order).

To me neither are Next Gen.

HBM will never happen in a console either. Way to expensive.

GV100 is the real "next gen".

i have no interest @ Xbox One 2.5 / Scorpio. I think, the next real Xbox coming 2019,  I would choose this.

I'd rather next gen kicked off in 2019.

If I had to choose though, scorpio this year. Still makes 2019 a possibility for a next generation system possible. 2020 seems more likely though.

I'd take Scorpio. The PS4 would still be the base console for third parties, so it would be years before we'd see truly next gen stuff anyway. And, PS4 is dominating the Xbone, but I'm extremely happy with my Xbone, my favorite MS console thus far. I'd rather it continue than them start new.

None , i dont care about xbox.

But there can be only one.

If MS was smart they'd skip the mid-gen update and wait a year and release the XB2. Sure, the PS5 would probably be out the following year and outdo it in specs, but it won't be as much as the PS5 will outdo the Scorpio.

I still think the PS5 would crush them in sales with a XB2, since Sony isn't going to repeat the mistakes of the PS3 anytime soon, but at least MS would have some time advantage to work with. As it is, it seems they are resting all hope on a more powerful mid-gen upgrade that's coming a year too late and is going to be $100 more than the successful Pro once it gets its price cut. Hell, it might be $150 more expensive is it's $449 and Sony goes aggressive in Sept and cuts the price to $299.
