Seems like lack of content is what's hurting it the most. I mean if a reviewer isn't a hardcore fighting game fan the lack of story mode a la Mortal Kombat or Injustice will have a massive negative impact. On the plus side we are getting free content post launch, plus for those who want to dig deep into the mechanics and competitive meta these issues play a lot less into our purchasing decisions.

There was also one person who claimed 90+ for every Nintendo game. I forgot to mention that, because Kyuu and you didn't ask exactly the same thing. |
Oh, I got what you meant. I was just being snarky.
New IP doesn't have that emotional bias that give the inflated review scores argument legs.
On opencritic you can uncheck reviewers that you don't like to get a more personalized review score. Publications that have no business reviewing video games can be taken out of the equation this way. For example Slant magazine gave BotW a 6/10, so I deleted them from my own opencritic. The result for arms is an opencritic score of 82/100 for me.
Destructoid, and Easy Allies gave this a meh score though, so I think I'll skip it for now.

So Splatoon all over again. Then like before these reviews will become irrelevant.
I had a feeling the lack of a meaningful single player campaign and sparse initial cast was going to negatively affect it but I didn't think it was going to this much. This makes the testpunch even more critical because it helps circumvent the initial lukewarm reviews.
Lack of single player content is a big deal for me, even though the mechanics look great. Same reason I skipped on Splatoon for a long time. Hopefully the free DLC will include more single player content as well.
I managed to predict correctly so far. This kind of reaffirms my lack of interest in the game.
78 is a good score. Let's not get it twisted. It's good for a new IP. Splatoon had an 81 overall score and look where it's at now. Not saying ARMS will have the same commercial success, but it's a decent game to add to library, whether it's now or later. This is one of Nintendo's new IPs, which is something people tend to criticize them for, though it is kinda weird if you look into all the games they've released the last several years. Hopefully it'll do well so it encourages more new IPs.
