Forums - Sony - Rumor: PlayStation 5 will feature a real GPU, not an APU like Scorpio/PS4 Pro

Sony doesn't need a PS5 in their short term pipeline right now. Of course long term yes.
But right now, they are thriving commercially. Consumers and third parties love the PS4.
Yes the scorpio has better hardware specs, and MS cann son call themselves to have the fastest console on the market, and that will give them som commercial credit. But unless there are no games to show with it, the scorpio is meaningless. DOA on the market..
And Sony knows, that they have nearly all thrid party publishing deals right now, and plenty of first party games coming out, all for the PS4 ecosystem, for years to come. No need to rush a PS5.
That would also unstabilize the current PS4 install base.
But long term yes, I guess late 2019 or late 2020 for a market launch. By then, the PS4 pro will become the base PS4 in a slimmed version, and the PS4 slim will become obsolete.

"Sony would've learned their lesson after the PS4 Pro, as Project Scorpio will slap them all over the place, and I'm sure they don't want that to happen again."

That is a fanboy statement not journalism.

I am sure being slapped all over with $100 bills is really hurting Sony lol. Sony has no reason to worry as they are raking in money so why disrupt a good thing till its milked?

This sounds like one of those 'My uncle knows someone, who knows someone, who works at..' kind of things.

If Sony were to release a PS5 in 2019 then that would make the PS4 Pro even more pointless than I already thought it was tbh. I already don't like the idea of mid-gen refreshes like the PS4 Pro or Scorpio in the first place (though it remains to be seen how Scorpio will end up) since I feel like they're pointless, but that means the people that bought a PS4 Pro only got to enjoy it for 3 years before having to buy yet another one. What was the point of a "mid-gen refresh" if it wasn't even going to extend the current generation by much longer? A normal console generation at least lasts 5 years usually, and the refresh consoles only came out 3 years after the originals, so it's not even really extending it by 3 years, it's more like 1 year at most since it the generation was probably going to last at least 5 years like it almost already has.

I don't even think there shouold be rumors of a PS5 right now since it still feels like this gen has a lot to offer. I mean, shit like PSVR and other VR things have BARELY just came out for consoles.  As others have said in this thread I don't think a PS5 should be released until 2020 at earliest.

I could see Sony offering an ES line of PS5 devices similar to their ES products to compete directly with high end Windows and Mac devices. They would be perfect for a premium CPU and GPU set up. This would be the line of devices for people that bleed 60fps in every game, and the highest resolution possible.

As for your standard Walmart, Taget, Fred Meyers, Costco, ect. versions, I think they will stay with low power, low cost APUs.

Who knows though?

Doubt it since Ryzen will have APUs which also have a significant increase in performance so no real reason to get a real GPU/CPU since APUs are usually cheaper.

I can see 1070 level performance pretty easily though cause by the time the ps5 comes out, Volta will be out with a significant performance increase over the ~1070 level graphics. Doubt 2019 Though

But who says they want AMD again in the first place?

That's a lot of words based on a smile and dismissive statement. More cost, bigger box, more cooling.... More expensive. Not likely.

I actually think PS4 pro was a good move. It helps to build 4k games that are needed for ps5. Game library is the key to success.

I somehow think Sony will release PS5 in March 2020, like NS, with couple of high expected exclusive: FF7, Death Stranding.
PS: sorry for my poor grammar.

I don't want to think or talk PS4. Enjoying PS4 too much. Give me another 3-4 years.
