Forums - Microsoft - Is MS going to have the Cheapest most "Vive" like Console VR in the bag?.

1. $399 is wishful thinking. $449 or even $499 is more realistic, just for the Scorpio.

2. Minecraft VR is probably the most vomit-inducing game I can think of. Who in their right mind would want to go VR into that block-world... Wait what, that crap actually exists?? Still don't expect it to be a huge system-seller. Minecraft's foremost audience is kids, and they don't have that kind of money to afford that.

Why do you and many others think this is wishfull thinking?. If PS4Pro could hit that price almost a year ago i see no problem with Scorpio hitting it this year. In fact i think many are going to be surprised with the price of scorpio. $299 Slim, $399 Scorpio, $599 Scorpio+VR.

Three reasons

1. PS4Pro was weaker than that, and prices don't drop that much to guarantee a $399 price.

2. Microsoft said it's going to be a premium product, so obviously it won't be sold en masse from the start.

3. The 1 TB XOne S came out just last year, priced at $349. Scorpio is much more advanced and you expect it to only cost $100 dollars more than the S, even if the price is slashed to $299.

I would like that to happen, except bundled with Forza 7 instead of Minecraft.

I have my doubts though. So far the mixed reality headsets are getting decent reviews yet they state they are good for the price and ease of setup and work well with floating windows. How the inside out tracking and slower refreshing LCD panels hold up in fast moving games remains to be seen. Another question is if they're going to be compatible with motion controllers.

As for the price, $599 (likely CAD 800) I'll bite if the bundled headset is getting good reviews and MS reveals a decent software lineup for it. However that seems unlikely as MS is not producing the headsets themselves. They would take a big loss buying them from eg Acer to bundle with the Scorpio. Plus at 399 they would already be taking a loss on Scorpio. PS4 pro only had a gpu upgrade and upclock from the processor. Scorpio also has extra and much faster memory and a 4K blu-ray drive. Much costlier redesign overall which MS has stated time and time again that it will be a premium piece of hardware.

I can hope for a couple more days at least.

MS already stated that their mix reality headsets are not due until next year so people probably should forget about them until next year. There is a slim chance MS might demo something this year to drum up interest. I really doubt that Scorpio will come out any less than 450. MS really not positioning the console for mass market appeal at the moment and there is pretty much nothing they can do to garner any real marketshare this gen. This is way they go the reveal and everything out of the way because its not going to make any real splash except for the hardware Xbox lover.

Ok so as we all know MS is partnered with a number of companys to offer MR [Mixed Reality but they are really just VR] Headsets with Inside Out Tracking for $299.  Insideout tracking allows the user to get up and walk around like with the Vive and they will work with Windows 10 and XB1 platforms.

Now if MS launch the Scorpio for $399 (I really think they will hit this price point), they could have a bundle that includes Scorpio+MR Headset+Minecraft VR for $599-699 (I think they will take the $100 lose on the bundle and sell at $599).

Would a $599 Bundled scoprio with minecraft vr and the MR headset give MS a nice piece of the VR market?. What do you guys think?.

1)  HTC Vive headset is currently 499$.

2) Leaks about E3 reveal of the scorpio, are saying its 449$ (for 1TB) and 499$ (for 2TB version).

3) that combo price your makeing up sounds silly low.

Theres already more than 1 million units of PSVR out there, and its probably the cheapest and best bang-4-buck you can get.

MS is NOT going that route Id suspect.

To go with a premium console (thats 449-499$), they would most likely also go with a premium VR headset.

the $299 Acer headset only has LCD screen, which haven't been used by Occulus, HTC or Sony, because in fast turns they blur the image a lot - maybe these LCD screens are much more advanced than was available to these 3 companies and are able to cope with fast turns, but that's doubtful as the headset is so cheap

personally I think the cheapest MS VR headsets are meant for designers, while there might be more expensive sets with OLED screens for gamers

As for the price $399 I'd definitely possible. Phill wants Scorpio to be the premium Xbox and it's likely that the Xbox One s will be $199 this year so Scorpio being double the price would make it a premium xbox one and it will have mainstream appeal.
Replace Minecraft VR with Fallout VR and that would be awesome.

If MS has to stay relevant in the console market they will take the hit and price Scorpio at $399, coz of u dont have appealling games.. power and 4K excuse ain't gone cut it, and if people really care about power and better performing multiplatform games they will get a PC

What leaks are these? I'm still betting it will be $399 because it has to be.

They stated they are due for Winter 2017 (was initally planned for Sprint 2017)... Not next year (for PC at least).
The DEV edition is for august tho (pre-ordered it).

I'm actually pretty sure Microsoft is going to demo something this year.
