Nice, it's not usual for Nintendo to brag about graphics so I am interest to see Fire Emblem.

Yeah, I'm thinking this in conjunction with other comments from them means fully 3D Fire Emblem with different gameplay ... still tactical but more ... mainstream-ish, maybe like what Square has done with the Final Fantasy games (no longer strict turn based battles).

I doubt they will change the gameplay in battles, but they may spice it up with other elements like the dungeon exploration in Echoes.  And they could have it be full 3D and still have the tactical battle aspect.  They could do away with the grid system however, making troop positioning more organic.  I mean, look at the recent Total War game campaign maps, you can get pretty dang detailed on zoomed out tactical maps.  And the arenas where these fights play out can be reallly detailed too.

As a series that has never been on hardware stronger than the Wii, there is certainly a lot of room for improvement.

I say the same thing about Monster Hunter.

Agreed. A Monster Hunter game would benefit massively from the kind of rich naturalistic environments and lifelike creatures that Switch's power can achieve.

How does a developer saying "our next game will look generally pleasing" merit four pages of discussion

why is this even a thread

You probably confused Nintendo console announcement with Sony or MS announcements, in any case, this isn't console announcement.

Adding some more recent stuff

Yes, Nintendo was always bragging about graphics.

A graphic demo for a new console ? Nothing wrong about that

Actually everything is wrong about that. According to the internet, it is impossible to have good graphics and good gameplay at the same time. Which means that if Nintendo improves graphics their games will become garbage. Every second Nintendo spends on graphics instead of gameplay makes the game worse. A tech demo is even worse because it's not even a game. The time spent on that demo could've been used to improve actual games. It's that demo's fault that some Nintendo game wasn't better. That's why Nintendo always chooses terrible hardware, so that devs can create better games.

Anyway, that's what I heard from the internet.
