Forums - Microsoft - What can Microsoft do to compete with the PS4 and Switch this holiday?

By doing this!

There is nothing. They don't even release exclusive games anymore. So, PC user's like me, don't bother with the Xbox brand.

And as a Sony/Nintendo gamer I pretty much ingnore them too. At least PC has great Indies, and some good exclusives. MS has nothing to offer  me.

Release Scorpio for a price which seems insane but comes with T&C up the walls to get back the money, like €299 system but you sign a contract for 2-3 years of Xbox live gold at a high monthly price like they did back in the 360 era in the states.

Or else have some megaton announcement of actual games or software for the X1 and by software I mean something along the lines of an open market on the platform such as allowing users to install other storefronts rather than just xbl on the machine but also have an option of linking it to users steam accounts.

I know both of these things are far fetched but the thread question is what can MS do to actually cause a bit of a stir in the waters which are very much settling now well above their necks, to shift things from the way they are going the answer to this has to be more than simply Halo 6 and Forza.... I want to say... 7? Gears 5, Blinx the timesweeper 3, fuck knows, but none of those are going to get peoples attention away from Switch and Ps4 right now I think, has to be MEGATON.

....

Maybe they announce the Orange Box 3 at E3
Left for Dead 3
Half Life 3
Portal 3
Team Fortress 3
Dota 3

All exclusive for the X1 (not even PC... the rage would be extreme but shit would sell consoles)

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

That ship has sailed tbh, MS' best shot at the holidays would have been for the Switch to flop and Sony HQ to get hit by a meteorite but neither happened. Unless MS does a Theresa May style u-turn and makes Scorpio it's own platform things are going to be quite rough over the next 2 years.

I don't think there's anything they can do within a reasonable frame of mind.

At this point they need something drastic.

Crackdown is not the AAA huge selling IP people are hoping for. Forza while great, has been declining in sales. Gears just came out last year, so a no show there. Halo 5 was their best selling IP, and it didn't blow up the charts like usual. Sea of Thieves isn't going to do it, nor Cuphead, etc... And 3rd party hasn't been doing it for them either.

As much as fans hype Scorpio, I only see it at best as a slightly better seller than PS4 Pro. The real sales battle comes from the $199 XBOs and $199 PS4 slim, which has been total domination by the PS4 slim.

MS issues are going to take another 2 - 3 years to fix, not a single holiday season.

They compete every holiday. They'll have a new Forza and some other games, price drops for older hardware and of course the launch of the most powerful console ever. I think they'll do just fine.

not nessesarily true I know multiple of my friends who have great pc's who will pick up a Xbox Scorpio this year its a great way when you buy a game in windows store to use for multiplayer lan, because when you put the xbox as your home console anyone can play the purchased games and when they drop by you can set up games togheter with a snap of your finger.

its also a good media center, its actually quite a nice device for pc gamers, I like the features more then the PS4 and would prefer it over even tough I will end up owning both since I have a ps4 since launch

I can't really follow you. With a PC I can play multiplayer LAN aswell, and don't bother with the games limitation like visuals and performance on a xbox console.

Also, aren't the Xbox One games tied to an account? So, one account per Xbox? Or can you have multiple xbox's with one account? I don't know what you define as a good media center. My TV can also be one on itself. I don't need yet another one :/

What I want to say is, when I have a really good gaming rig, why should a buy a low perfomance console to play the same games? It just doesn't make sense to me. I rather would go for a ps4 pro or Switch (<- Which I did) to play the games I don't get on a PC. The Switch has also the advantage that it's a handheld, and if the promises app will be released, I will be able to play my PC games library on the Switch aswell as long as I am home.

Intel Core i7 8700K | 32 GB DDR 4 PC 3200 | ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming | RTX 3090 FE| Crappy Monitor| HTC Vive Pro :3

Nothing. Playstation is way ahead of them and has more/better exclusives and appeal. Nintendo, on the other hand, has a completely different appeal, which separates them apart from XB1/PS4 and allows them to have their own success (Switch) due to being unique. Xbox has nothing, in comparison. It's a shame, too. I loved the original Xbox (360 was decent I guess), but the XB1 has zero appeal to me.

Hi

Microsoft blew it when Xbox One launched at $500 against $400 PS4. MS could be neck and neck with Sony in sales now if Kinect 2 had been sold separately.

That's why Scorpio cannot launch at $500 either. PS4 Pro came in at $400. History repeating itself.

I do not see how Scorpio can debut at $400 maybe $450 but PS4 Pro will drop at least to $350 a $100 difference again. And Switch is $300 with Mario Odyssey this holiday.

I cannot wait for MS E3 press conference in 2 Weeks, maybe MS will surprise us with Scorpio price.

Agreed I have a high end PC that negated the point of me having an X1 the second they went down the path of bringing all their games to PC, I ended up giving the X1 to my nephew. The's no incentive for me to ever bother with an Xbox console at this point.
