I'm actually one of those guys that is not too fond of the constant transitions to 3D, and Splatoon really doesn't need to be open world. It would completely change the gameplay.

No, the IP and uniqueness is still fresh (at least to me) so no need to make it similar to other shooters

Nintendo tends to do both, not 2D to completely 3D.

Me too, but the idea of open world Splatoon raises my curiosity. |
I just think it would kill the pace, Splatoon is about short, fast doses of action, having to traverse an open world would bog it down too much I reckon.
Instead of a shooter give them roller blades. Le them fight for turf by splatting walls of rival Squids. The Octolings are the police and the real danger.
I shall call it Jet Set Splatoon. Totally original idea do not steal!
I feel like they'd have to take out things that make Splatoon... Splatoon (in terms of core gameplay) in order to pull something off like that.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
