Forums - Nintendo - Why did Nintendo turnaround ?

There are a couple reasons why Nintendo saw a turnaround.

1) The cheap price of the wii compared to the other systems.
2) wii sports
3) The failure of the Gamecube, owners wanted to upgrade faster then the Playstation owners.
4) A lot of Luck.

wii at luanch: $249.99

Xbox 360: $399.99

PS3: $599.99

I think thats why, also people think its a nex gen experience and are buying the cheaper console, casual gamers are also heading towards the wii because of its controller.

The gc was $100 cheaper than the ps2, why didn't everybody buy it then.

Because people wanted a cheap DVD player, and a good gaming console.

THen ps3 should be selling with tis blu-ray.

The mass market has not completly upragaded to HD, and are not interested in a blu-ray player, not to mention most people cant waste 400 bucks on a gaming console, with a blu-ray player. Sure it may be a great deal, but its still to much money.

See this proves thatprice isn't everything you say. There are many outcomes due to things like dvd , and such. You can't jus t assume that if the ps3 was cheaper all of the casuals would get it. Then you would notice the attach rate , being smaller , because of the lack of casual games for these casuals.

Then it would mean the GC would sell amazingly well with all of its casual games.

The wii passed GC lifetime sales, that statement is no longer valid.

It's not luck, it's skill in development and marketing, unless you mean lucky that the PS3 and 360 sold for 599 US dollars, in which case, Nintendo was lucky because of that stupid business decision by its competition.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

For various reasons, but most importantly:

Because they made a console which appeals to a broad demographic, and because they have the game development resources to support that console with good games. The reason for the former is what HappySqurriel said, they focused on what's important to appeal to a broad range of people.

Why did Nintendo turn around?

...because they like money?

Its luck, no one could of imagined the wii would of took off like this.  Nintendo never even thought it would sell like this.  Nintendo also has some of the worst ads i have ever seen.  You have a bunch of people jumping around acting retarded infront of their TV.  Thats even worse then the Sony ads.

LoL, I see what you did there.

In that case:

Why did Nintendo turn around?

...because Miyamoto finally came home from vacation.

or

...because they thought the time was right.
