Forums - Sales Discussion - An attempt to justify partly why the U.K. is perceived to be one of the weaker markets for Nintendo.

One thing to remember is that Nintendo never had the same presence in Europe that they had in the US. Nintendo couldn't move the NES in Europe because of legal battles in the US. Once they could, Sega and others came into the market. Nintendo was never able to establish a foothold in the market.

I partially agree, although Nintendo had a decent chance to get a foothold, specifically in the U.K. during the Wii period. However, they didn't capitalise and shut down their dedicated U.K. office in the wii u generation.I've no idea how they fare in the rest of Europe but i'd guess it would be similar. Except possibly Germany, where their European HQ is.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Just not the type of games us British like, simple as that. A xbox market first and foremost.

I'm not too sure about that. The wii captivated the British audience,  with most key franchises selling massive amounts, although it did so worldwide. As for your comment about the Xbox, i would agree it has much more brand power in the U.K. but i would argue the Playstation has even moreso. Also, the British perception is that Nintendo is in a distant 3rd place, particularly given the floor space devoted to their products at retail.

Well, it's not a secret that British taste in games is not the most sophisticated. The UK is dominated by first person shooters, Fifa's and whatever is currently the most "manliest" blockbuster.

Isn't it like that in a lot of places? The US is dominated by FPS and sports games too.

Because Nintendo games are so sophisticated lol

? I don't understand the intent of your post.

Ironically, Switch is #1 right now on UK Amazon.

Oh, it's not surprising. I think the Switch will possibly be another Wii situation here. My original point is that the retail industry over here is detrimental so far to the success of it. If Switch games were given more retail presence, then it would help greatly. The outcome of this is the Switch is PERCEIVED to be doing worse than what it is. This thread wasn't necessarily meant to discuss whether Switch games are sophisticated or not.
