Gameplay and world felt like Far Cry Primal which I've already played and beat almost a year before Horizon came out. I think some things like the animal/robot taming Far Cry did much better too. Combat quickly got repetitive to me. It essentially boiled down to shoot the obvious shiny weak points until things die. Later enemies just took longer to die. Thankfully the spear upgrades made smaller enemies much easier to kill quickly so they weren't as much of a hassle. Story/characters didn't really interest me. I know characters aren't exactly easy to make important in an open world RPG where you do most things by yourself, but still. I liked Nil, too bad he wasn't more involved in the game's story, but like I said that's probably because it's hard to get many characters involved in games like this where the focus is overwhelmingly on the player character. I did like the story at the beginning, the child Aloy bit was good. It just never maintained that level to me though and quickly became pretty predictable. |
Interesting, because I mixed up my kills in more ways than one for every type of enemy. The favorite way to kill is by freezing the enemies for max damage. I once booby trapped a whole field and played chicken with a thunderjaw and it blew up with only one try. The more you face the enemies the more interesting ways you think of to take i down. The most badass way to kill for me though was knocking off the blasters from the backs of the most dangerous robots and killing them with it. Thunderjaws were the most satisfying because you have to shoot the stomach. After I deweaponized it, I froze it over, tied it down and blew up its stomach with the blasters in two rounds. I dont see far cry anywhere in that, but I do see your points for the basics. I havent played far cry 4 out of lack of interest, but I have it on my HDD because the sale was dirt cheap. I played Far Cry 3 and the aspects of this game that are like far cry to me are similar with Assassins Creed and Batman anyway.
Aloy isnt a very deep character because she doesnt have any true parentage. Shes finding out about herself vicariously through the woman who she was cloned to be and living in a primitive world that shuns children without parents. Shes more of an asset than a deep person. Her personal character takes shape by her dry style, yet brave and honorable demeanor. Theres nothing she wont attempt if its worth the risk. Perhaps if she had a family, it would say more about her. Shes just a curious loner and it makes total sense why. If she had spent more time with her community she wouldve been more well rounded. When she finds out what she does, it makes sense that shes not so social. Sylens is completely devoid of emotion, but it didnt make me any less weary of him (especially in the times were living in). It was the religious fanatics who had more emotion and reason to fight than just the sake of fighting, but some simplistic yet real meaning which is very real for people even today who take part in mass religions. The only difference is fanaticism has run rampant, but because its a a primitive time for mankind once more, its less alarming.
It all made sense to me because the game forces you to prioritize the story of the esoteric nature of its dialogue rather than just focus on the main character, whom still has so much to learn about herself. Perhaps in Horizon 2 we will learn more about her. Sucks that the game was only playable to you. The multiple ways to play the game was just too fun for me to choose any one way to fight. I dunno, it didnt come off that way to me.

Look at what he created with the Shadow Carja just trying to find knowledge about the ancients. Something was a little off about how hades system was corrupted and went into death mode without the will of Gaia. The amount of foreshadowing was immense and im glad know now what woke him up and made him go haywire. That next boss for the next game is going to be insane. I just want to know how its going to be taken down. Sonys guerilla team just found a freaking winner!
Good lord I cant wait for the sequel!! |
Good for you! It is a must play game and every, EVERY, PS4 owner should have it and beat it.

Thanks , man. Now that hades no longer has the power it once did because of the work of Sylens, I think Sylens will wield it and reestablish the shadow carja with himself as the head and wake up that crazy abomination thinking it has answers, when it can only bring death. Curiosity killed the cat. That dude has to be taken out. Hes no fanatic and yet you cannot just kick him out of his group as hes already a loner/nomad.

Totally agree with this: by the way, how sick was the big reveal? I did all the side quests, as they became available, then went through the storyline. It was definitely the most boring way to play the game, because the plot builds momentum so quickly. |
This is so true!, i was getting bored at one point exactly because of that, and its not that the sidequests are bad or anything, but obviously the plot of the game is way more interesting and engaging.
I still dont know whats the best way to play this game, when you do a story mission you just wanna keep going, and stopping for some sidequests after every single story mission KILLS the momentum / Pace of the story, and if you decide to do all sidequests then again after a while it does get a bit boring, it is exciting to reveal the map by yourself and this keeps the sidequests more interesting, (thats why i left the tallnecks for after i revealed the map on my own), but... as i said it ends up getting boring because of how MANY sidequests there are.

It's definitely a matter fo personal preference, but maybe it's best to do the side quests of each new story area.
There's no right answer to that conundrum lol.
Very excited for the sequel but i wanna say the game did let me down in two things:
1) The "main boss" of the game or at least the human boss of the game is a dude that is so forgettable that when i first saw him i didnt realized he was a boss and just thought he was anothe big generic thug, and only later did i found out he was actually an important character to the story... also he barely appered in the game which makes him even more forgettable. (i will address this point further below).
2) I thought the final boss or at least final fight of the game was gonna be against a Metal Devil (the Horus), you know those gigantic things that rest upon mountains that are so big you could make an entire stage inside them... for the longest time i kept thinking about how they were gonna make that huge thing into an actual boss fight and how it would play out, and i got to the conclusion that... i didnt know how they could possibly make it into a boss fight but if they did this game would have one of the coolest final showdowns in any RPG i have ever played, sadly they didnt and while the final boss is still practically the most interesting enemy they could throw at you (especially considering it has the cannons from the tanks you see everywhere) its still no Metal Devil.
Also i wanna say that while I thought the game was pretty great i do see many places where it can improve, for example:
1) More side activities in towns (in the first game they are just places to go pick up sidequests or main quests and or buy and sell equipment), i want the ability to play games, im not asking for Poker or any other mini game that has been done to DEATH in open world games, but rather completely new original stuff, considering this is a new world i wanna see some new interesting and original mini games, also let me sit at a bar to eat and drink while i absorb the atmosphere of the city/town and hopefully even have a fun conversation with some NPCs while im at it, anything like that would help me feel like i am indeed in a living breathing world.
And maybe make some attractions in the big cities like race tracks or something (im thinking about something similar to the chocobo races in final fantasy), or better yet something completely original, i want them to impress me.
2) Make human encounters more interesting, i saw many people complaining about this one and while i wasnt really bothered by it at all (it was what i expected from this type of game) i do think they can improve, maybe give more depth to the melee combat and make it so its easier or preferable to fight humans this way, that way it would also feel very different to fighting machines.
3) Get rid of all the ubisoft open world design elements, this gotten really boring for me (and many other people since ive seen many compalin about this exact type of thing), get rid of the towers, clearing enemy camps and other tropes we have seen in Ubisofts games, i want them to come up with completely original elements in design for their next game.
4) I wanna see more old ruins to explore in the next game THAT ARENT tied to the main quests, i was hoping to find a lot of them but honestly (aside from the armor ruin) there is only the cauldrons, and what i want are tons of places like the other metal ruins but completely optional, and you access them to expand your knowledge of the ancient world and it be awesome if we could get some really cool ancient weapons or gadgets.
Gadgets that would allow you to do some cool stuff in the open world (like manipulate gravity for a period of time, or become invisible for a period of time as well etc.) and also... ancient weapons which i think can be implemented and balanced so the player doesnt use them all the time (for how op they are), like for example they could make the ammo really hard to find and very limited so you only use them when completely necessary.
5) I understand that this game was mostly about explaining the history of the world to the player, and thats the reason why other things like the human boss of the story got pushed aside for the majority of the game but... now that thats done i wanna see a very memorable, cool looking, interesting and most importantly charismatic boss for the next game, someone who is constantly present through the story, who is very human as well (unlike other "cartoon villains" ive seen in other games like uncharted 2), someone who you can understand but also hate a LOT.
and finally...
6) I WANNA RIDE MACHINES!, DO YOU KNOW HOW COOL IT WOULD BE TO RIDE A THUNDERJAW!?? THE FREAKING COOLEST!!!, (or at least let me hack them and control them, that would be equally as cool).
