Forums - Gaming - Anyone else not like Smash Bros.?

I have never played Brawl or Melee, but I got flamed mercilessly at VGchartz for suggesting that the original Smash Bros. was a worthless piece of fan service.

I believe that the game would have sunk without a trace if it hadn't featured well known characters, but that is a controversial opinion around these parts.

Brawl steals your soul. It transcends fun. You start playing, thinking you'll just play a 'few quick rounds', then move on to something more productive...

Five hours later you shut the Wii off and shake your head, wondering just how you managed to waste 5 hours of your life so effortlessly.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

I personally love Brawl but i respect Jlaff for stating his opinion and not being a mindless robot. One thing though. RE 4 hasn't been opened and you've have had it since December? What??!!!!

My brother hates the game and claims that everyone he has it is a little kid. It is very fun online. Also, even though the control sucks, Subspace is quite fun.

I bought into the hype and picked up SSBB. Played the N64 game once, thought it was ok, never checked out the Cube game. Decided to buy this one based on the great reviews, the current sales and alot of hyped up posts on this forum. Boy am I disapointed. It's got alot of polish I suppose but I just don't get it. This game isn't fun to me, I played it for 30 minutes and may very well not ever put it back in my Wii. I thought Powerstone was MUCH better. Maybe I should try the online, although I was playing it with a buddy. Anyone else like me and just do not understand all the love for SSBB?

Before today, I thought it was actually impossible for those words to be used in a sentence without making the person saying it explode.  I've learned a great deal, today.

To fully appreciate Smash Bros, you need to know how to play Smash Bros. You can pick it up and play without really knowing anything, but it only becomes great once the mechanics become second nature. You can't play it like a traditional fighter. It's more about timing and stage control rather than learning complicated button combos. You have to be aware of your surroundings and how to take advantage of situations. This is why some people pass it off as a button masher. They don't give it enough time to fully understand the depth and faster pace of the game.

yeah - without knowing how to play it, it's just random button mashing

give it another try

If you don´t like games then you're not a gamer.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Super Smash Brawl is way better than its predecessors.
For one, all those dumb glitches in Melee that I didn't feel like learning are removed. Also, better characters, graphics, adventure mode, and Online Play have formed my opinion as well. Super Smash is the Best game for the wii to date and for Jlaff, did you sleep well last night?

@op the same concept applies to every game you either love it or hate it.

If you don't have a lot of friends over to play it all the time, it probably won't be worth as much to you. The online isn't particularly great as of now.
