If true, are they trying to compete against T2, the same way Watch_Dogs was supposed to be a GTA killer?

Went and looked up the other options listed in that survey you mentioned: |
The cocaine trafficking jungles of Peru sounds interesting!
Not a bad idea... if it wasnt for some other game doing much the same :P
Redemption 2 will slaughter them if they release close to each other.
I don't really understand the idea that two games with the same setting can't do well if released close to one another. It's like saying that Battlefield will flop if it releases close to CoD. If the game is good, it will do well. Far Cry has a pretty substantial fan-base and it's not all that similar to RDR.
As for the game itself, I'm down. Far Cry games are fun and I'm a much bigger fan of traditional rifles than I am automatic weapons. I just hope it has forests and such. I'm kind of burnt out on deserts.
I doubt it will hurt the game as much as most seem to think. Far Cry has an own big fanbase and it's a first person shooter, they won't just stop playing Far Cry because of RDR2 releasing weeks/months later.
If it would be a new franchise, ok, but Far Cry can stand for itself as long as it is a good game.
It might get some less sales but I think it will still do pretty fine.

Except ghost recon wildlands just did that and that's a UBI game too.
I like the idea of a Juarassic Park Island although Horizon might make it's dinausors seem bland.
Sadly for them RDR2 is doing Western.
Although they will both still sell well, at least the PS4 versions. There's enough people out there to buy both. If it's true I'll get RDR2 this year and I'll get Far Cry 5 on sale next year.

Really? So we could have had a dinosaur island far cry and people chose not to? So disappointed in them right now! There's so few dinosaur games around and that would have been awesome! |
Ugh yeah we need more open world dinosaur games..

You are not taking in consideration it's up against a Rockstar game, not just a similar game. |
I just don't see it being such a big deal that they should skip the holiday season unless it really does need a delay. One is an FPS with its own style and the other is a TPS with its own style. Those who like Far Cry games will buy it.
Personally, if RDR2 is anything like the first game, I'll take a good Far Cry over it any day of the week. RDR was one of my bigger gaming disappointments in recent years. Granted, Rockstar has the resources to fix all the issues RDR had but they're going to have to prove it before I'll buy it.
Oh, I remember that poll. I have chosen Post-Apocalyptic, Western and Dino Island options. Western FC would be interesting, but will it be able to compete with RDR2? Maybe early in 2015 it was the best idea/option.
