No they dont, its not same if you have launched in the beginning of month and at end of month, and fact is that MK8D was in sale only 3 days in April.

Fact is MK8 would have been #1 for sales in the month regardless of whether it had released on the 1st or the 30th.

The same is true for most games that top the charts. Now if you have some niche indie game releasing at the end of the month and still outselling the likes of COD, FIFA, GTA, MK, Zelda, Halo etc which all released earlier... now that would be impressive. But a big established franchise getting a huge number of their sales on day 1? Nah, that's not impressive, that's expected.

He's got a point. It's not like Mario Kart is a new franchise

Mário Kart is a huge franchise.

Looks like nothing worth of note released for PS4 and XB1. So much for AAA third party support.

Edit: To add on to this, it would so much more impressive if MK8 won May than April. Despite it having 31 days in May and 3 in April. Why? Because in this quality of days>quantity of days and the 1st day of sales for a new game just means so much more than later days.

Best selling game is best selling game in any case, but definitely more impressive is when best selling game is game that was selling only 3 days in that month, than game that had almost hole month of sales.

MK8 is big established franchise, but Switch user base is very small in UK, and with only 3 days of sales managed to be best selling game of the month. Fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Is Nintendo's First No.1 game For Six Years in UK proves that sales of MK in UK are very impresive. We can look US sales also, MK8D had best sales on 1st day for any MK game, beating even MK Wii that was launch on system that already had instal base of around 25m.

It's not a new installement either, the were people before hand saying it wouldn't have an impact because it's an enhanced port the same group said the same about Zelda before launch but each time the argument has been blown out which makes the post come across as some what salty.

It's in the same vein as switch owners have nothing else to buy.

People really need to get over this "only 3 days of sales" bullshit. You'd have thought with the amount of times people have said it they would have realised it doesn't mean fuck all by now...

But the more days a game is out, the more days it has to accumulate sales. Am I missing something?

See my edit. So are you saying if MK8 now also wins May you'll be like "eh, it had a whole month worth of sales, not impressive"?

And don't get me wrong, I do think MK8s sales are impressive and should be celebrated, I just think the amount of days it had in the month is irrelevant to that. Usually it's an excuse for when a game flops, and no a game releasing later in the week doesn't mean it's sales aren't poor anymore, they're still poor and would have been poor regardless of when it had released. The same is true for games that do really well.

No I want say that, but logically sales would even bigger if it was released on 3. April instead of 28. April, thats why its more impressive because it won month with only 3 days of sales.

If you have one strong game releasing at beginning on month and another strong at end of month, and game that was released at beginning on month was best selling and game that was released at end of month second best selling, its valid argument to said that second game maybe would be 1st if it also had whole month of sales, but if actually second game become best selling game, in that case that's impressive.

I get what you're saying. It's not an entirely fair comparison when games release at different times. But @bolded doesn't really sound valid to me. It just sounds like an excuse, something like somebody saying "well if I tried harder I could have won" when they lose. Not only is that not what actually happened, but there's no guarantee that would have happened either.

That's kind of the point of aligned launch comparisons, they actually have merit because they use actual data and try to make it more comparable in a fair way. There's no hypotheticals or "what if"s involved. No this "might" have happened, just what actually happened.

Like I wrote, Best selling game is best selling game in any case, but point if one game was in sale for 4 weeks and for comparision another half of week, is valid argument, but offcourse that argument want change fact of best selling game of month. Also its valid argument to say that's impressive that game with sales of only 3 days is best selling game.
