Forums - General - Star at the Bar: Kittens and New Clients

At the bar with my client as usual. Things are slow.

I'm super nervous for a new elderly client I'm working with. He's a former lawyer and judge... shit like that always freaks me out x.x XD Dunno if I'll stick with this one...

So after my girlfriend begging for another puppy (we got one in February), I convinced her that getting a cat would be better due to cats being 100 times cheaper x.x and not as much effort is required. So yeah. What kind of cat should we get?

Russian Blue's are cool.

Depends how much you want to take care of the cat though. As you say Cats may take less effort, but if its a really hairy cat, it may take more effort then a dog. Or those expensive dog like cats; they are quite interesting.

A type of cat called a dog.Always the superior kind!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Already put $1,400 for a dog. Not putting another $1,400 for another v.v XD as someone who works 80hrs a week. I very rarely have time for a dog. Let alone 2... Cats in the area are only $30-130. That's not too bad at all. Plus it gives my current dog a friend while I'm away x.x

Honestly, what is a good low maintence cat? I ask mostly cause the cat is more or less going to be a companion to my daschund and keep him company since Im always gone at work (75 on a good week, 85 on a bad one)

If possible, I would adopt a cat from a rescue, rather than buying one from a breeder. Not only is it cheaper, but you'd be giving an abandoned animal a home. With so many animals out there already, I've never really seen a need to pay a breeder for one, unless you really want a purebred cat for shows or something.

I'd personally get a kitten, if you have the choice. It's adorable watching it grow up, and you'll feel more attached to it that way. When I adopted Mao (my cat), I picked the most energetic kitten at the rescue, and he grew up to be one of the most social cats I've ever seen. Whenever I have a guest over, he'll sit on their lap like he's known them forever. :P

Thats our plan! My gf volunteers at a cat shelter and they just got some kittens in!

Shorthairs are lower maintenance, and smaller cats. So Domestic or American shorthair, which is probably most cats that you see. But they might not like dogs as much as other breeds, but it depends on the individual cat.

And if you still have a puppy, should be fine.

You just made the best decision of your life.
Once you go cat there is no going back.
Get a playful one, and be sure to play with it and not just let it alone and bored, it'll want to play by itself with you eventually (even more if its already playful) and you'll be amazed on how crazy the thing can get and how funny it is.

Oh, I've owned a cat before XD its just been a while. Last time I owned one my dad took it when my parents divorced and then he told me he sold it months later ;-;

Just make sure that the cat you get is used to social interactions, and frequently interacted with them! One of my cats first lived in a barn, and didn't really interact with humans at first, and now she's kind of a bitch.
