Forums - Nintendo - Super Bomberman R reaching 1 million

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/268019/super-bomberman-r-ships-over-500000-units-1-2-switch-on-track-for-1-million/

If it ships out 500,000 more, or digital turns out to bridge the gap and that becomes known....would that be something have a positive effect on the third parties?

Would it be enough to make third parties feel like they are viable on the Switch, or would Bomberman's lack of guns and generic male protagonists make Bomberman not count

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

If a company as reviled as Konami has been the last couple of years can sell a million units on the Switch when it has an userbase smaller than 10m, I'd say that's a fantastic message for 3rd parties. Then again, that might be limited only to A-AA games and japanes devs, I don't think the big western studios care about Bomberman sales anyway.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm honestly shocked that it's selling this well. However, I think that as more games come out, the harder it'll be for the 3rd parties to have their games shine through the Nintendo big hitters. Bomberman has really benefited from a lack of releases and competition.

I always believed that indie devs and Japanese 3rd parties (Square Enix, SEGA, Capcom, etc.) would all be onboard the Switch train. The dact that a less popular title from a despised company like Konami is pulling this off further cements that belief for me.
It's the Western 3rd parties that are questionable.

Yeah Switch will get plenty of games from Japanese 3rd parties because Switch is going to dominate Japan. Big Western 3rd parties haven't had much interest in putting their games on Nintendo platforms in recent gens. Hopefully that changes with the Switch though.

Not sure if it can double in sales for LT, but definitely is doing a lot better than I would have imagined

Maybe a pricecut could do the trick though

The big stigma with Nintendo and western 3rd parties is the perception that only Nintendo games and exclusives can sell well on their platforms.  Skyrim is a big test to me when it comes to western 3rd parties because it's a game that's both beloved by non-Nintendo gamers and made by a developer with no real presence on Nintendo platforms.  If a game like that can sell an amount comparative to what it sold on the xbone then it destroys the stigma and I think it's possible because the  Switch finally has a feature in its portability that can make a Switch version of a multiplat more desireable to some than one for the xbone or PS4.

This is the flaw in western developer's thinking though that a late port should be a test, why should Switch users have to go out and buy Skyrim to prove something, if the platform continues to do well developer have to be the ones to put out genuine efforts for consumer's money not monitor a late port's performance.

The real reason western developers always stay on the fence is not a consumer one but an indutry one which involves factors like licensing fees and platform holder retaining a lot of influence etc...

I feel like Bomberman will lead to more indies, retro and some Japanese developers to flock to Nintendo. Needless to say there is an audience but I feel that Skyrim will be what might pull in more western developers if it's a success.

Yep. Though it's kind of a tough call, seeing as Skyrim is a 6 year old game. I have no doubt in my mind it well sell well (BotW owners will more than likely purchase Skyrim), but can it convince 3rd parties to develop exclusives or downgraded ports to a much weaker system?

The other test lies on FIFA, and that's more important than Skyrim when it comes to continuos support (we get games like Skyrim once a decade, but the FIFAs, CoDs and Assassins Creed come yearly and still sell a alot).

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.
