RTS. Pls Age of Empires 4 and Rise of Nations 2
Old school hack and slash/platforming game like Medieval on the ps1.

Not only do games like game dev tycoon miss far too many details, they are also so insanely easy that you can't lose, even when you try. I miss games where it's all about numbers and graphs. Games like capitalism where even small mistakes can fuck up your company for good. Sure, there was Transport Fever, but I didn't like that game too much. The maps are way too small. No way in hell is it ever gonna get so complicated as in a nice round of Open TTD. So no point in not just playing that instead. But well, I gave up hope long ago, it's just too much of a niche I guess. Aside from that, I would be totally down for a real nice new skating game. Skate 4 would be totally awesome. Sadly EA is the devil and they killed Black Box, so yeah... |
Completly forgot to mention those, miss them too
Arcade racing such as burnout and PGR
Extreme sports such as SSX and atv off-road fury.
Platformers such as sly cooper, jak and daxter and Maximo.
Shoot 'em ups/bullet hell!
The top down or side scrolling type. Just you piloting the space ship that is the last hope for the galaxy and ridicolous weapon upgrades. Sure there still is the occational game of this type from time to time, but not even close to the variety of late 80ies and first half of the 90ies.

All of this. I used to play racing games & sports games, but that's because they were unrealistic & fun. We also need more platformers - 3D of any type, sidescrolling 2D without being bogged down by puzzles - and turn-based JRPGs. The most specific thing I want to return is classic Tomb Raider...I can't think of any game that conveyed exploration & platforming quite like the first two TR titles. Space shooters like Colony Wars would be nice to have again.

And ones that play like Metal Slug. |
I played a Metal Slug on the Wii VC way back in the day, don't know which one it was but I liked it. It was a little slower than Contra but still great.

Konami actually announced Gradius 6 as a PS3 title way back in like 2006, but nothing came of it and it was eventually cancelled. The Wii did get Gradius Rebirth as a WiiWare title, but it was more of a remix of past Gradius/Nemesis levels. It's been eight years since then, and the franchise is effectively dead. And as for R-Type, Irem has abandoned it entirely, having withdrawn from the video game business a few years back, and when they did several R-Type games got delisted from various digital stores. |
Ikaruga was bad ass.
