Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sells 459,000 copies on launch day in US, fastest-selling Mario Kart in the US.

I want to see how ARMS does. If Nintendo plays their ards right and markets it properly, it could become the switch's splatoon as in new game with massive succes that has the power to become a staple of Nintendo gaming. Hopefully it happens and ARMS sells 1mil+ in its first week wordwide or even double that.

45% attach rate is a strange statement, because that would put Switch hardware sales in the USA at 1.02m by the end of April, so only 120k units sold in April. Yes, there was air fright that pushed April supply into March, but 120k units for the month is less than what Japan has been getting in April. This doesn't really add up.

45% is either true and disappointing, or Nintendo PR made a mistake.

Could they be using March shipment numbers for US?

Very impressive, especially when considering that this game is a port too

yeah the attach rate percentage is non-sensical. It doesn't quite match with March numbers and is obviously not close to accurate with the current numbers as of MK8D launch. I just ignored that part and decided they made a typo.

I've seen a few places point out the attach rate was accidently based on the NPD March figures.

If the attach rate was based on March NPD figures, then it would be above 50%. (459k copies of MK8D, 906k hardware units.)

The best explanation I've read is that it's based on Nintendo's shipment figures for the fiscal year. They shipped 1.2 million Switch to the Americas, maybe 1 million went to the US but they didn't completely sell out like we think.

Edit: Nintendo PR shouldn't share April hardware data anyway. NPD would be pissed.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

This is one benefit of having a rabid, older fanbase, you get better software sales more quickly.

Kinda reminds me a little of Mario Kart 64 which I believe for the time (1997) was the fastest selling game ever in the US.

It's probably shipments, like they used the 2.7 million shipment figure for global sales.

That's pretty amazing for a port of a game that came out years ago, geez.

I'm enjoying MK8D so bad. My cousins and some friends came to my house the past 2 days and we were playing it non-stop. I'm exhausted, I want my life back! lol

I had every MK game on the market except Wii-U, and this is hands down the best so far. Maybe the first game to cross the 10M mark for Switch? Let's see! :)

I really hope Nintendo wasn't dumb and only shipped like 150k-200k Switch hardware to the US for all of April. That would be ridiculous.
