Forums - Nintendo - So, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's online isn't superior to the Wii U version's.

There's no way to verify your claim as of now, unless you're willing to wait until fall.

Except there is a way, the part of my post you snipped out, unless you wanna believe Nintendo is lying or something.

Yeah they're making it a point that despite you having issues with it, they don't. It doesn't mean you're wrong.

You don't know anymore than I do what their point is, so just let them speak for themselves.

My online experience with MK8D so far has been pretty good actually and I haven't paid a dime for online play either... Have you been paying for it already Einsam_Delphin?

It's free right now, but will become pay to play in the fall.

Could I make a suggestion which is a ratty dig at the Wii-U and guess that the Switch version is probably suffering somewhat from its popularity. Just a thought, I have been removed from lobbies too with a error message, happened a couple of times.

Never seen any of the other things mentioned in the OP though about lag in games, got a keen eye, think I would have seen them in the races I played. Could be a connection issues at your end OP?

Not keen enough then.

Like I said, from what I've played and seen others play, the issues are there. Even if people claim not to experience them, the issues are still there, because that's just how it is with online play, it has inherent lag even before taking connection strength into account. The signal has to travel all around the world afterall.

I'm not saying they don't exist (and I assume you're not just making these thing up). I'm just saying that I've never seen these issues myself, so I don't think they're really big.

Well, okay, but that doesn't really have much to do with the thread topic. I'm not debating how prevalent the lag issues are, just pointing out that they're the same in both versions of the game.

What you did is called an interpretation, they never said that litteraly.

Yes they did say the free trial period for online play is already underway, whereas they never give any indication that it would be improved once the paywall arrives beyond voice chat and features like that. If you want to believe they're just waiting to announce such a thing for some reason then alright, but be prepared for disapointment!

But how can you "put to rest the idea that paid online equals better online" if you have yet to pay for it?

They definitely do exist but I don't think it is as widespread as you make it seems like.

Seeing how I never even mentioned how often they occur, please do tell how I make it seem like that.

When you make a thread titled "online isn't superrior to Wii U versions" that is a generalizations implying everyone should assume at all times it is a similar experience, which it isn't. The Switch feels way quicker at joining groups and loading into matches.

Well, I've been playing for about 15 hours so far. And I would say online is a lot worse than on Wii U. On Switch I'm having connectivty errors like every half an hour. And it's weird, because this didn't happen when I played FAST RMX. Players jumping from one place to another or not reacting when they're hit is also very common. Also, when playing ballon battle, sometimes the game will just not count any of my points. Like, I hit three guys in a row with shells and bombs and it will not show the message "You hit... whoever it is". My points won't change either. But when they hit me, it all works flawlessly. Lucky me...

It's a real mess. It's not unplayable, but in my case it's 50% trouble, 50% good.

Not a good situation. Having problems while internet is free can be tolerated, but having issues and enduring a fee will only make several people to ignore the multiplayer aspect of certain Switch games altogether.

I concur. Things that would have took 20-30 seconds when I played MK8 online on my WiiU are way quicker on the Switch like 5-10 seconds to get the matches starting.

Same with lego City. The Switch is like what the Wii U should have been in so many ways.

From what I've played and seen of others playing, the online play in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is no better than it is in the original. Exactly all the lag nuances are still there, such as teleporting players, players going through item box/coin but it doesn't disappear, hitting a player (even shows hit animation) but they keep going like nothing happened, random disconnects/dropped lobbies, and so ons. So with that, I think we can put to rest the idea that paid online equals better online, because once again, it does not! It is purely a scam, one most all of us are going to pay for lel.

I have never seen any of these on MK8 Wii U, and I've played online quite a lot.

Same here.

Don't think their new online has been implemented yet

But as a side note, I've been playing more Splatoon lately and notice a lot more disconnects lately.. like at least one person per game :/

Same here, only games I really had lag with online with Wii U, was Smash, a little on the CoDs, and mass effect.
