They obviously won't play a game like Dead or alive Xtreme for clear reasons. Playing Mario however won't banish you to hell.
All of the Muslims I see in Palestine love video games (Counterstrike is popular there too). Only reason you won't see them on PS4 or XB1 is because they can barely afford a PS3. a ps4 would destroy their wallet
I don't worship Thor or Ares but I can still appreciate the artwork and gameplay.
I don't worship Allah either but Islamic artwork can be quite beautiful.
The dogma of any religion supresses people for power of the leaders. Islam is the worst set of bad ideas that people blindly follow, not unlike Christianity was many centuries ago. The only difference is that Christianity was REFORMED whereas Islam is still stuck in its archaic state. I feel sorry for the majority of Muslims who are repressed by their religion.

They do not only have a problem with things like Christianity or alcohol, but they probably think games are too Western in general. I suppose that Muslims who play video games are more moderate, and don't have issues with these things being shown in video games. |
Muslims don't have a problem with Christianity, since the Quran says Christ was a major prophet of God and the religion of Christ is Holy and true. What Muslims have a problem with is a some Christians. Just the same as the world has problems with some Muslims.
But also one of the teachings of Islam is not to have or create images of the prophets, so physical depictions of Christ are against the teachings of the Quran. So a game that shows images of Christ is problematic. But a game with Christian themes (so long as they are not also anti-Islamic) shouldn't be an issue for Muslim gamers, of which there are no doubt millions since consoles do sell in Islamic countries, and they can't all be selling to the Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish minorities.
Islam also began within a culture that was polytheistic and steeped in idol worship, so Islam generally finds polytheism and idolatry to be objectionable. To extremists this extends to all forms of depictions and representations of deities, including mytghological ones (particularly since those deities were at sopme point belied to be real). But more moderate Muslims don't see historical mythologies as so problematic.

So my question is. What do Muslims think of games that feature ancient Greek, Egyptian, norse gods etc. Are they comfortable getting into the world of rival gods or do they have a distaste.
Genuinely curious. |
I'm very "comfortaburu" with it
it's all just fiction.

Did you not read the link you yourself qouted at me?
Chapter 5, Verse 90 “O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, stone alters, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.” "intoxicants are wine actually." - qoute Dino Mustafić (muslim, with friends that are scholars in it)
That user, speaks the language and says, people saying "intoxicans" are mis-translateing it. The actual word in the koran isnt "intoxicans" but "wine".
Thats what I mean. People are "reading" things into it, that arnt the words used in the koran. But if you look though the koran you can find mentions of various alcohol, by name, saying they are sinfull. However you wont find "mead" in there.
Where do I get this? My father told me, he heard it from a muslim. Found it funny, like a loop hole they have in there about it, and remembered it because of that. He told me, and I remembered it for the same reason.
Supposedly mead, a alchole made from honey, is supposed to be okay to drink by muslims. |
Problem with translations, they must be put within context vs literal much of the time. Most translations would put this as intoxicants vs the literal for wine. Not because the intention is to separate one alcoholic drink from another, but because the point is to not intoxicate yourself. This is really what you are saying in regards to the differentiation with wine and mead - one is strong the other is light. Which is also why the word "intoxicants" is more accurate for the context than the literal word wine. Its not like the Arab Muslims of the time were able to drink vodka and tequila, but anyone reading the entire context of the Qur'an in regards to alcohol would agree they are also not to be consumed similar to wine, etc.

I'm a Christian by tradition and no religious things no matter which religion bother me in games.
However when you're given a choice to do right or wrong in games I always choose the right path first time around.

That's not true. On ps4 on the games I play online, gta V, rocket league, rainbow 6, battlefield 4 after a certain time the servers are literally over run by Arabs. And it's easy to tell because for some reason most Arabs but their name and/or country in their psn id. Ahmed, Muhammed, amir etc etc I nearly know all Arab names by heart. And you see a ton of KSA, UAE, etc in their ids.
So a shit ton of Muslims can definitely afford a ps4, PS plus and they play this platform in their droves. They are also the section of online gamers that annoy me the least online so the more of them online the better.

Let's be honest though Christianity needs another big reform. It's fallen behind times again big time.
