Big 3rd parties like Skylanders and Just Dance probably flopped, the platform is not suited for them yet. Bomberman did wonderfully for what it is, but it would have done so much better without all of Konami controversy last year. When will Minecraft release? I have the feeling it will reach the million in less than threee months, considering the speed of the Switch's sales. |
Actually, indies IMO fit the Switch more than other platforms. With PS4 and Xbone they exist to fill out lists, let's just be honest. Not knocking them, love some of the indie offerings on those systems. But with the Switch, they serve a more real purpose in its lineup. Handheld gaming is not just about hardware, it's about pick up and play gameplay centric design that can sustain long play sessions but be fulfilling for short ones. Nintendo needs to gratify both console and handheld audiences though meaning there will likely be a lack of such titles, especially since the big hook of the Switch is *console* experiences on the go. So indies plug those holes. Had many times where I have sat down with my Switch and not known if I have time for Zelda and so I would instead fire up FAST RMX for a quick few races or Wonder Boy and the Dragon's Trap or Blaster Master Zero. Basically, they offer those flexible gameplay focused experiences that would normally be served by more handheld-centric design.
