Forums - Nintendo - What do you think the 2D Mario team is workin on ?

Probably Mario Maker 2.0 for Switch.

I think it's time to retire the NSMB series ... the art style is too bland. If they are going to make a new 2D Mario, it should be something legitimately new.

Please be New Super Mario World with a new art style and more whimsical levels like the original :)

Hopefully a 2D Mario game that's actually "New".

Mario Maker for Switch. There's still so much they could add... Slopes, SMB2 style, jungle/desert stage themes... Probably they will add this in a Switch version.

Another New Super Mario Bros. 3

You know it deserves the GOTY.

NSMB2 - 10million
NSMBU - 5million

I doubt Nintendo is going to ignore these sales because forum-goers are tired of the style. Make no mistake, I'm no fan of the style either, but I gotta be realistic here.

Maybe combine NSMB Switch with Super Mario Maker! Add in Online mode and a bunch of cool stuff.

Pocky Lover Boy!

If Nintendo employs Breath of the Wild logic here, the next Super Mario Bros. will feature a new style. The likelihood is rising, now that BotW is released and can be seen in action. Nintendo's attitude here can't be "we'll be content with 5-10m", rather they will have to aim for 20m and a caliber of quality that moves Switch hardware in droves.

If the people at Nintendo were content with declining sales, then Breath of the Wild would have never materialized.

I would hope you're right but every Nintendo series did do worse than their DS/Wii counterparts. I have to doubt they're gonna change the styles of all of their games especially when doing so is not a guarantee for success.
