Forums - Sony - Even if Sony "wins", have they really "won"?

Not making first place would be a minor setback for Sony this generation. If they don't make third by the end of the generation Sony has a significant issue.

Nobody expected Microsoft or Nintendo to beat Sony this generation. The fact that Sony's console has now been out a full year, has been reduced $200 (and probably another $100 this year), has had 4 SKUs, got a massive boost through the blu-ray win, and using the largest franchise sequels from gaming history for its 2008 lineup should put Sony at the forefront by the end of the year.

If Sony is not out of third place for living room consoles by the end of this year then it is not so much that they have lost as it is the both Nintendo and Microsoft are both winner. Especially since Microsoft also has a huge reliability issue and Nintendo wasn't supposed to be in the game to begin with...

Sony thus far, this year has been able to create the "perfect storm" for themselves. Nothing has gone wrong, everything has gone right, and they only this week started significantly pulling away from 360. They still have a lot of work to get to Wii territory.

If nothing else the console world will continue to be interesting going into next year. and if it is, that can only mean another great year of games in '09 for us the gamers.

wii is a different market, PS3 is in the HD market and they are well on thier way to winning it

You PS3 fanboys are almost as delusional as the Xbots, face it Ninty got it right this time and the PS3 well missed the mark a little. They are still both in the HOME consolemarket and it is only Sony's fault for not selling as much as Ninty. Open your eyes fanboy.

Pot calling the kettle black, funny.

With a post like that no one would ever mistake you for a fanboy.

You fanboys need to relaize that Wii and PS3 can and will coexist, they are two way differant machines that offer two very differant experiences.

The only loser is the 360, what will you all agrue about when both wii and PS3 break 100 million consoles sold ?

ey guys
you know what's interesting?

that the ps3 is almost exactly at the same point as the ps2 was at this part in the ps2's life..

go to the world hardware from launch chart
and compare the ps3 to the ps2

No Ajax, just no. You're comparing the first 7 months when the PS2 was only out in Japan to when the PS3 was out in both Japan and NA. Try doing a comparison by region instead if you want the real story.

Or put the Wii on that graph and be really blown away.

they released at different times across the world. (ps3 has longer time out in all 3 regions) but who knows maybe Sony was compromosing for the high price.

Does this (dishonest) manipulation of the data have to be discredited EVERY DAY?

The PS2 had an amazingly staggered launch, and then when it was finally released in North America and Europe faced amazing shortages. If you look at the PS3 vs. the PS2 on a region to region basis it becomes clear that the PS3 is far less popular than the PS2:

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=Japan&cons2=PS3&reg2=Japan&cons3=PS3&reg3=Japan&weeks=156

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=PS3&reg3=America&weeks=156

http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=PS2&reg1=Total+Other&cons2=PS3&reg2=Total+Other&cons3=PS3&reg3=Total+Other&weeks=156

so what?
the ps3 is longer out in the 3 regions
but take into account the higher price this time around and the greater competition

and all that matters is, is that the ps3 is now out everywhere just as the ps2 was at this moment
and it's on the ps2 sales line for two months now

so at this moment and in the last weeks
it's following the ps2 almost exactly in it's weekly sales and total sales wordwide

''Hadouken!''

so following your theories gentlemen
that would mean
that the ps3 sales line on this chartz
should fall below that of the ps2 soon
and the ps3 line shadowing the ps2 time at this moment is just a coincidence and not sustainable..
