GTA5 was a system seller?

Not for Switch... obviously

But for PS4/Xbox One? Definitely! Actually, I'd say it's probably still selling systems now, it's still in the top 10 of the latest charts at least.

Any numbers to back that up? The reason I'm asking is because ps3/xb360 console sales remained unaffected when GTA4 launched contrary to what most people thought would happen. This was reported by several game related websites. I'm sure some people bought an xb1 or a ps4 for GTA5 but some may have bought a wiiu for wonderful 101. To call a game a system seller, there needs to be evidence of it actually moving systems. I'm sure we can all agree that games such as Zelda and God of War are system sellers. GTA, and especially GTA5 on xb1/ps4, I highly doubt it.

The fact that it's still selling well doesn't say much about its ability to move systems.

Both May and June is going to be a slow month I think.

May is far enough away that I expect some E3 announcements of things releasing within a month or two after E3.

it will win for 3 reasons -

1. many people are still trying to buy a Switch, but havent been able to due to stock shortages. i wouldnt doubt that the 2 million units sold really only make up half of the people who intended on buying one but havent been able to.

2. since that many people dont have a Switch, that just means more and more great titles will pile up for when they do get to buy one.

3. Minecraft is huge, and for the first time ever, a true version of Minecraft will become fully portable. not like Minecraft PE where you have slow touch controls, but a full-on console version of Minecraft. the same goes with other indie games coming to the Switch. i know that I personally will be double-dipping on Stardew Valley just so i can have it be portable

We know that MK8 is huge game and most popular Wii U game, and lotsa people actually didn't had Wii U because very limited instal base of Wii U, so for all people who didnt had Wii U this is brand new great game. Zelda BotW and MK8D will be for some people strong reason to buy now Switch, MK8D will be prette strong. I cant wait to see Japan numbers for that week.

Those who really wanted it already bought it years ago.

Let me correct you on this. I never got it, I really wanted it. Now I'm finally getting it. I know 2 of my friends who will be buying switches once MK8D hits even though they own the original. You're underestimating this game and how many people did not own the wii u (I fall into this category in a sense). But yea... you're underestimating a Mario Kart game.

I am fairly certain you will be proven wrong in the coming weeks.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
Although NBA Playgrounds is another notable release, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will most likely heavily push systems for months after it's release and by then ARMS and Splatoon 2 will be their to keep the momentum moving until the really big titles coming in Fall/Holiday.
Mario Kart Deluxe doesnt have to be a massive system seller, it simply needs to maintain momentum.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
The Switch is still sold out and MK8D comes out in two weeks. So the Switch will likely still be sold out from launch/Zelda momentum when MK8D releases. Even though MK8D likely won't have the same hype as a MK9 it's still a mario kart so it is still a system seller, especially considering how few people bought Wii U. Switch will probably still be hard to find until June, at which point I expect people will be able to start finding it on a normal basis but sales should still be strong as Arms and Splatoon are released.
Launch strength for MK8D depends on how many of Switch early adopters are Wii U owners. If a majority of early adopters are Wii U owners then MK8D might not get off to a great start but should have huge legs as the switch should should eventually sell many tens of millions more than the Wii U did.
Either way, Minecraft is a big game and Street Fighter is a good non major release for May as well, and launch periods are always sparse, you can't expect a system seller every month, hell you can't expect that at any point in a system's lifetime. Switch is sold out, switch will continue to sell really well through the spring.
if they manage to keep the momentum of 200k units a week til holidays it will outsell the wii u by january's first week.
