The combat is amazing like other Platinum games but I found the rest of them to be severely lacking in several other crucial areas of gameplay like level design, pacing and variety in gameplay. Nier Automata doesn't have great level design but its vastly better than most Platinum games and the pacing is spot on. The game also offers variety that I haven't seen in any game before with its constant twists and turns in gameplay that make the campaign feel fresh throughout the game. The story is also the best I've experienced in video games, way better than Naughty Dog's overrated cliche plots and even better than God of War 2 and Red Dead Redemption which had the best story yet in my opinion. The protagonists are Androids yet the game made me feel more emotions than any human protagonist has done in a game. I'm not one to care much about story in games in general partially because most of them are cliche plots and I'm more of gameplay guy. But this game is different as it nails the story AND the gameplay which is again something I haven't experienced since those two games I've mentioned above. Now the world building isn't quite as good, and the open world is the biggest weakness of the game. Playing Horizon and then coming to this was a huge downgrade, where Horizon excelled at crafting a brilliant open world, the best I've ever experienced this feels nowhere Nier as good (pun intended). But the otehr aspects of the game more than make up for it and if you have a PC and PS4, just do yourself a favour and play this game. Even if you're not into hack and slash games and Japanese games, this one is worth playing but be aware that your standards for video game narratives and gameplay will jump into the stratosphere after you play this game. |
Hideki Kamiya invented the signature style of gameplay of Nier Automata and rest of the PG games with DMC.
He is the OG, you need to apologize and pay your respects, I suggest you present your apology to Kamiya's twitter.

Hahaha yes he did, but he has been bettered by Cory Barlog, Yoko Taro and Stigs Ausmussen at his own game.
Yeah it's one of the best Japanese games released on ps4 this year. A few friends are raving about it.
I hope they make a metal gear rising 2!

Tbh the style Nier uses is more Hideki Itsuno's who was the director of DMC3, Kamiya invented the modern action title although Itsuno created the signature style on the foundations the former laid down before Kamiya himself went on to use Itsuno's template to create his on stamp on it.
I disagree, I think Persona 5 is the best game this generation. I bought Nier Automata a couple days ago, that being said I've only played one other platinum game (Bayonetta 1) so I can't really say if Nier is their best game (I hope it is, though).

Did you try Nioh? |
I bought it, haven't gotten to playing it yet. Persona is surprisingly long.
It's the best Platinum game without a shadow of a doubt. The only one without a dung-tier story, characters/world, etc.
Gen though? Nah. Close, but not quite.
I played the game for 6 hours but I had to stop playing because my ps4 stopped working. I'm sad but I really enjoyed the little I played.

Well.. Bayonetta 2 came out this generation... |
I'd be interested for the argument of Bayo 2 over Nier. Thought that consensus was that it was a very good game but worse than the prequel.
