Forums - Gaming - Platinum says they'd port 'all their games' to PC

But it's up to the publishers

These past few years, we’ve seen a lot of Japanese – as well as previously console-only – titles hitting the PC. And that’s because the PC market is currently huge and, let’s face it, most publishers and developers cannot simply ignore it. The same applies to the developer behind Bayonetta and Vanquish who told PCGamer that it would love to see all of its titles on our platform.

As a spokesperson for PlatinumGames told PCGamer:

“The PC market is huge and can definitely not be ignored. We are absolutely aware of that, and we’ve always felt this way. We’ve always had a positive stance towards porting our titles to PC, but the decisions as to which platforms we release our games on, and which platforms are the main focus for the games we make are largely made by the publishers, so this is not something we can decide on our own.”

Of course this does not surprise us at all. After all, we’ve seen images of Japanese developers testing their games on the PC platformlong before such versions were officially announced. Bayonetta and Metal Gears Solid V come immediately to mind, and we all know that Square Enix has already up and running an experimental PC version of Final Fantasy XV.

As the spokesperson for PlatinumGames concluded, if it was up to them, they would release all of their games to the PC. However, the publishers decide for which platforms their games will be released on.

“If it were up to us, we’d port all of our games to PC, but it all depends on the publishers.

We still feel strongly about putting more consideration into the PC market. If our current efforts prove successful, this will only make PC development more attractive.”

it'd be nice to see Vanquish, but I can't see the likes of Starfox and W101 ever coming to PC (barring the emu). Still the devs know that PC is becoming more lucrative over the years, but it's the publishers that need to pay more attention over that time, if they want to make more money that is.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I could swear this is not nearly the first time Platinum or at least a top dev has said this. They continually say its up to the publishers, but people always seem to ignore them in lieu of complaining. This shouldn't come off as news unless its on Gamespot. I would hope after this people would not beg or whine to them specifically to port Vanquish, to another platform, but I know better.

So no Bayo2

Nintendo owns the IP and rights?.

Well aware that they funded for it, but sow as SFV and that hopped onto PC, as well as other funded titles that MS pocketed that also turned up on PC.

Either way, that game can be played via Cemu.

The title is a bit misleading, because as the spokesperson says, a lot of it will depend on the developers. It is easy to see why Bayonetta came over, because Sega (particularly their Europe division) wants to expand its digital presence on PC. However, other projects will heavily depend on what the publisher wants. I think if given the opportunity and resources, most devs would have brought their games to PC, particularly because many games start out as PC projects.

After mulling it over a bit, I'm sorry for what I previously. It's great that Bayonetta is getting a port for, and I didn't mean to be rude. This was about a positive step for PC and devs and, I just let my collective agitation over this, bother me a bit too much. So yeah, sorry for that.

Hopefully, between this and Nier, publishers will let more of Platinum port the IP's they developed on the PC. The frequency can help be more accustomed to PC development and help own funding.

Sega owns the IP, but Nintendo has some rights to Bayonetta 2.

But not to the entire IP. Remember that Sony "funded" SFV and MS some other IP's that they don't own either, those ended up spreading to PC.

Nintendo owns Bayonetta 2 but not the Bayonetta IP.

This.  It's likely Bayo 2 wont be hitting up on PC ever.
