Forums - Microsoft - Why you should want a 360.

easy:
Halo 3

Around the Network

Halo 3 is a big selling point, but I don't think many people buy a console for one game. Even I will need something other than Versus to entice me towards a PS3 when push comes to shove.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

GTAIV:

If you simply have to have this title, which console you buy for it is a no-brainer. The 360 has exclusive downloadable episodes and what has been called the "definitive" version by Rockstar themselves. The 360 also has the excellent exclusives Saint's Row and Crackdown, and the PS3 has nothing worthy of comparison.

At the end of the day, any console purchase has to be made for games that you want. Theres a reason to by a PS3 other than games in Blu-Ray. However in terms of games, the only reason why you would choose a PS3 to the exclusion of a 360 is if you absolutely cannot live without GT, MGS or FF. Other than those three titles, the 360 has it over the PS3 in almost every gaming genre, and will continue too for at LEAST two years. At that point, even if the 360's game library is usurped by the PS3's, the PS3 will be far cheaper to purchase.

The 360 is excellent, buy it if you like games.

Edit:

Other points of interest:

-In-game custom sountracks.

-In-game messaging.

umm.....usually it isn't but Halo 3 is at an unseen level. It is a level above almost all (if not all) big releases explaining it's extremely high sttach ratio. I'm sure millions of ppl bought a 360 for Halo 3

All this system-chest puffing is ridiculous when, for once, there is no definitive BEST system this generation. The Wii suffers from bad graphics and poor utilization of it's control scheme, resulting in a couple AAA titles paired with an ocean of shit. The PS3 doesn't have enough games yet and isn't being exploited to it's full potential, but it's got a slick UI and great value outside of it's gaming capabilities. The 360 has the best library of games so far (due to it's year head start), but despite that year lead still hasn't got a firm stranglehold on anything except a possible second place finish in America; mostly due to prior problems with reliability.

Really the only way to get the full gaming experience this generation is to buy all three consoles. If you can't afford that... well you're going to miss out on something. That doesn't mean you need to try to talk up what you've purchased. Just enjoy the games that do come out for it.

Wii:
Pros -
Unique control scheme that can add new dimensions to game play.
Great first party support.
Economical price.

Cons -
Unique control scheme that's tacked on to games that don't need it.
Loads of rushed, "who knew it'd be a hit", games.
The price isn't so economical when you've bought the extra wiimotes and nunchuks required to exploit the games full at-home multiplayer experience.

360:
Pros -
Best library of games so far.
Good graphics.
Great online play.

Cons -
Sounds like a jet plane taking off in your living room.
Shooter-centric (The JRPGs released so far are getting more credit than they deserve due to a lack of competition.)

PS3:
Pros -
Good graphics, potential for more.
Best Blu-Ray player on the market.
Excellent media server.
A lot of good games on the way (about the same point in it's life cycle that the 360 got a bunch of good games).

Cons -
Suffering from mediocre ports that don't gain from PS3 hardware.
Poor selection of titles.
Pricey.

Ok, give me a minute and then I'll edit this post.

Thats one where they say you need a 360 for the "completer" GTAIV experience.  The definitive comment is older, I'll try to find it when I'm online tonight.

I think the 360 is great, and people should want it. XBL is unrivaled. Achievements and the current lineup of games (especially RPG's) cannot be beat.

BUT IMO when compared directly to the PS3, it is just not on par.
There is nothing wrong with owning both systems, but if you have to choose between the two, then it is hard not to look towards the future... and buy a PS3.

Man if I didn't already have one, I would be all over the MGS4 bundle.. so sweet.

what future???? if it's game quality, there is no insight for now that devs are willing to spend the time and money on making games that really uses what the PS 3 has to offer.... BR ok that format is still far from taking over DVD.... and by the time it does if it does.... you'll have other better quality stand alone players for way cheaper as it is the case already now on ebay anyway... and on top of that the genration will probably be over.... your way of thinking is true when it comes to built a PC.... I don't see it when it comes to buy a console... you buy a console for the games it has to offer now and the near future plus now the services it has to offer.. if you look at that... beside a couple games that appeal to some people PS 3 has not much more to offer than 360 that justify the investement....

I guess i was referring more towards the 2008 Sony exclusive games lineup.. that future.

You are right aboput the devs being able to learn or not learn how to use the PS3 to its fullest power. But that is a discussion for another day. One which I think we may agree upon..

You are right, as of now the PS3 and 360 are comparable in terms of games.

But the PS3 and Blu-Ray is an advantage IMO. the ability of software updates and Blu-Ray profile 2.0 still places the quality of the blu-ray player at the head of the pack, and for a great price when compared to other similar featured BD players.

Yes eventually there will be better BD players out there, for cheaper, but there arent now.

But we both have our opinions, I respect yours.

I'm loath to get into a PS3 exclusive argument in this thread, but you must realize that the whole "Sony domination in 2008" argument was based largely on the understanding that GT and FF would make it into this year, something that is now highly unlikely to happen.

Indeed, whilst MGS4 will no doubt be an excellent system-seller, at the end of the year, Microsoft will actually have more big name sequels in Fable 2 and Banjo Kazooie than Sony will.  Not to mention Ninja Gaiden 2 and Gears of War 2.  Sony has Resistence 2 (which will probably be excellent, but its fanbase already owns the PS3, because thats where the first game was) and Killzone 2, which frankly is the sequel to a bad game, and has shown no indication of being great at anything other than games.

No offense but I don't think you are giving the PS3 enough credit as far as games go. For instance...

- Resistance 2

- Grand Turismo 5

- Little Big Planet

- Haze

- Metal Gear Solid 4

- Killzone 2

- Afrika

- Final Fantasy XIII

- Eight Days

- God of War 3

- Tekken 6

- The GetaWay

- White Knight Story

- Final Fantasy Versus XIII

- Home

- inFAMOUS

- Motorstorm 2

I know throwing lists lists around gets annoying but I would say that these are all potential AAA titles. Just trying to prove a point. I do agree with the fact that the original Killzone was very mediocre, but that was mainly because it pushed the hardware too much. I'll admit I'm a little worried that Gorilla games hasn't shown KZ2 for a while, but I still feel fairly confident the game will turn out well due to the fact the the PS3 is strong enough to handle just about anything. But honestly, you've seen the game. As far as graphics are concerned you can't really deny it's amazing. Can you?

I have to disagree with you there. While the PS3 has a good amount of exclusive shooters coming, it also has a bunch of other varied and innovative titles. Look at the list I made in my last post. I would say 80% or not shooters.
