Forums - Gaming - PS4 Pro, Scorpio, PC and Switch, what players want in 2017

Gameplay is what I care about, but without power, 3rd parties generally won't bother with the Switch so it is still important.

I, myself, am most interested in getting a Switch at the moment

Evolution is from a non stable 60fps to a solid 60fps. Also better looking games.

And how is that evolution, wasnt that already a reality for the last 30 years everytime you bought a new graphics card on a PC?

You mean evolution is a new 400$ dollar console every year to increase framerate? Damn...

Yeah on PC but not on consoles. Modern AAA have trouble achieving 1080p and a stable 60fps. It's great that consoles are becoming more like PCs imo.

Are you sure graphics did not play a role in a lot of the PS4 exclusives games people are looking forward to.  I am going to hege a bet that people do not get excited just because a game is exclusive.  Instead people get excited if a exclusive looks like the upcoming Spiderman or Horizon and its exclusive.

Graphics always plays a role because that's how it grabs your attention for first impression.  But Horizon, like many other amazing looking games, definite has a good first impression due to the graphics, but we all know that no matter good a game looks, if it plays like garbage then that's the final result.  Everybody knows gameplay is the #1 factor in an amazing game, it just doesn't hurt/or even more impressive if it looked good too.

Looking at 2017 PS4 exclusive, graphics wasn't the defining factor.
- Yakuza 0, the game just looks like a more polished version of its previous but anybody that plays the series loves it
- Gravity Rush 2, looks like a polished Vita version or the same as the PS4 remaster
- Kingdom Hearts 2.8, just looks more polished than previous KH games.
- Horizon, probably the only PS4 exclusive this year so far that shows really amazing graphics, but anybody that's played it talks more about how fun it is than its graphics.
- Nier Automata, a typical looking hack n slash by Platinum Games that only looks better than Bayonetta 2 due to power difference in console
- Persona 5, the graphics aren't close to top notch, but the artwork and style and amazing.

Most of these games are more like 'expected graphics' because it's on a console that has that power but nothing that PS4 owners screams for demand of needing high end graphics.  Or at least that's how I see it for myself.

As for Spiderman, I think people are just excited for a new spiderman game that's actually fun (gamplay wise, not graphics) because there hasn't been on in awhile.  I know alot of people haven't played a good Spiderman game since PS1 or PS2?

I was saying that people were excited about those games because they looked good.  This is way before anyone actually had a chance to play those games.  Graphics always bring the wow and even the ones you listed looked very polished and up to date.  None look like they were PS2 games or anything like that.  Today there is an expectation that games look a certain way and right now Horizon and Uncharted 4 gives games the expectation that games will look that good and also deliver on the gameplay goods.

Another question would be if the X1 and PS4 both performed at the same level would Sony have as many 3rd party exclusives and would they also have such a big lead market wise.  When both release one of the major issue with the X1 was that it was weaker than the PS4.  Of course now with both system having a mature library, games start to be more of a selling point especially if they are top notch.

Switch exclusives, Indie releases and Good Old Games

In other words, Teraflops don't matter for me much. I need a new PC, but that's because mine is 7 years old and slowly dying (CPU needs to be undervolted to work stay stable, Hard disc slowed down to a crawl, lack of RAM...)

Gamers just want to have fun. Experiences from the next generation (my kids): Zelda on Switch looks better than HZD on ps4 pro and 1-2 Switch is amazing...

My son had a school friend over today (they're 7-8). First he tried out psvr RIGS, noise level 10 from the excitement. But it's not multiplayer so they played Rocket League 3v3 on my projector, noise factor 12. When they got bored of that (after 2 matches, kids) try Zelda? No, 1-2 Switch. Noise level 15, deafening fun.

I wonder when that shift happens and they start worrying about fps, flops and resolution. For now couch co-op or vs is number one priority. For myself, more VR games!

You when when they care about how games perform?. Is it a sickness they need to be cured of or something?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I'll end up getting a Switch. Not sold on Scorpio due to the fact I don't have a 4k TV yet. I also have an X1. I won't be missing out on games, just pixels.

Xbox Scorpio - I want Microsoft to deliver a true premium expereince, and open up the doors of the console industry even more. I hope Scorpio can lay the ground work so we can have $1000+ console options from Sony and MS in the future. Optimally, it would be great if Scorpio sets up a future where I don't have to have a Windows PC for the highest res/fps games.

But... why?  thats too much pc like, for my likeing.

Just buy a controller, and get play your games on pc then.

Its bad enough developers have to make 2 versions of the games (for normal console, and pro/scorpio), but if in the futures theres so many configurations, its basically just a pc. That ll end up with console users haveing to fiddle with drivers/graphics settings for games ect.

At that point its just a pc. $1000+ console options is crazy.

I just do not like the mess on PC. The PS4 and XBO experience with PSN/XBL, and PS Store and Xbox Store is a million times better.

Also I am not a fan of mixing and matching Motherboards, CPUs, GPUs, RAM, Power supplies, fans, and peripherals.

I will take a $1000+ PS4 or XBO with standardized hardware any day. I also would prefer to develop for an ecosystem built of scaled standardized hardware than the crap shoot on PC. Better to optimize to a handful of scaled standard devices, than make sure everything works across 10's of thousands of variables on PC.

Well, I'm on the camp of gameplay over visuals and power. I'm not against those, but what matters to me most is the gameplay. Story is good as well, and sound.

Just have them all. For me, none of the options interest me. If Pro becomes much cheaper I will think about it. Wh n Switch gets a better looking redesign with smaller bezels and no production issues, I'll think about it. Scorpio zero interest. And i don't really PC game these days.

I'm not really sure what you mean...

More like a phase. Right now they can't care less that splitscreen lego worlds runs at a very unstable 15 fps on my laptop.
I started caring when I had my own PC, looking at upgrades and settings to get smooth performance etc. When I had kids that phase was over. I guess I still care a bit since I bought a ps4 pro for VR enhancements. Don't care about 4K yet though.
