If you aligned the world wide launch dates of the PS2, and Wii, would Wii be winning?

Yes, by a huge margin.  The 360 is actually tracking fairly closely to the PS2. The wii has already almost caught up with the 360 without being launch aligned, and so the wii is outselling the PS2 and 360 by over 2 to 1 launch aligned.

If you're looking at this graph, then I believe you are mistaken.  VGChartz does not seem to have weekly Europe data for the PS2, so its numbers are artificially low.  You can see on the World->Hardware chart that overall PS2 sales are much higher than the World->Compare Consoles chart will show.

If you compare Wii to PS2 in America or Japan, the Wii has a slim lead in America and the PS2 has a slim lead in Japan.

No way. PS2 was an impressive piece of hardware when arrived. It was a real "next gen". Wii is just GC with some upgrades. No fuel for a long race. It sells well mostly because of low price,  hype and new controls.  PS2 is at 120 million tag right now and it still sells. Wii with 1 million units sold every month for 9 years? No way. It will not happen.

It dosen't have to sell "1 million a month for 9 years" to catch the PS2, genius. It's called the "holiday season".

By that logic, you're saying that the PS2 sold more than 1 million a month for 7 years.

If the Wii was created last generation, it would have definitely outsold the Playstation 2, and Xbox.

That's not good if it's containing Europe for wii and not PS2.  There should be a disclaimer on the chart...  Wii is still doing slightly better then ps2 I think, but that does make them much closer...

My guess is that wii will have an upgrade within a few year, maybe some improvement on its graphics and improved online capability. Something like an "elite wii"....combined maybe they will outsale PS2...

It better, because it is a little bit embarassing that it has the worst graphics out of this generation. And this "focusing on other stuff" garbage is just an excuse. Gamecube had better graphics than the Playstation 2. Why doesn't the Wii have better graphics than the Playstation 3?

No matter what, I see most people have a big problem with graphics, and always come back to "graphics". The ONLY complaint I see about the Wii is graphics. It's rehashed differently every time, like "lacks power", but it's always about graphics. Perhaps some day, people will realize that graphics are not so important for a console. If it was, PC would have killed consoles a long time ago. It's telling too, that people talking about graphics describe it ("jaws dropped", "beautiful scenery", "don't look like crap", ...) like they were watching a movie. But games are not movies. People don't buy a console to be amazed at how it looks, but to have fun. Being amazed by graphics is not the core of a game. That's why handhelds sell, and that's why the Wii sells. I don't know if the Wii can sell as much as PS2, and I'm part of those that believe it won't, because it's more reliable than a PS2, and I'm convinced a large portion of all the PS2 sold broke and were replaced. As for 3rd party unable to make good games on the Wii, then it means they won't be able to make good games on the other consoles as well. It's pretty telling when people say that. They mean 3rd parties can't make good games, but the games then become magically good because they're on a more powerful console. Sorry, but that's delusional. If a game is barely good, better graphics plastered on it won't make the game any better. People that still are blown by graphics have a hard time understanding that graphics wear off FAST. No game blow me over graphics, and I'm a casual gamer. Actually, I shake my heads everytime I see reviewers or players amazed at a game graphics, like Gears of War. I realize some hardcore gamers (I suppose those that love shooters) have a very biased view of what appeals to casuals. Graphics is sure enough not a selling point for casual gamers, I'm convinced of that, so for me, thinking that better graphics are going to allow the PS3 or XB360 (which still has the lead) to catch up is delusional too. When HDTV really start to sell based on their quality, rather than their form factor, then I'll start to believe graphics are important in games. But I'm sure it's not gonna happen in the 5 newt years.

And the gamecube still didn't sell more than PS2. Wii wont get a update version as long as it is selling as it is now. The fact is that Nintendo has shown that you don't need the horse powers to be succesfull, you might not like it but it is the truth. More important is is something that Sony fans should have known, because PS1 and PS2 had less power than their competition.

Another reason for Wii to be lack powerfull than PS3 is that more power would have mean a more expensive consol, something Nintendo didn't want.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

Consoles have never recieved graphical revisions. They are only replaced with newer consoles. The Wii wont get a graphical revision. The only thing that could happen is if Nintendo replaced the Wii, with another console, extra early, which was backwards compatible with Gamecube, and Wii games. However, I highly doubt this would ever happen.
