Forums - Nintendo - The story of 3 switch third-party games.

I think they are just taking profit of the new released console but what they did with lego is way more offensive, the other games will eventually get cheaper but Lego will require yo to have always 13GB occupied for a game you own physically just because they wanted to save some cents per cartridge, that's ridiculous.

Luckily this cases are exceptions and not the rule.

That's not true and OP needs to change that.

Minecraft story mode, and Rime cost $10 more on the switch than anywhere else. *Sources at the bottom

With the quote from Rime "“We set prices for our products based on the costs of development and publishing for each specific platform.”

So one can assume that cost of the cartridge = higher cost of the game.

Lego city undercover is $60 across the Switch/Ps4/Xbox one. So no increased price there. It is 20 gigs on the Wii u, and 7 gigs on the Switch. Where did the missing 13 go? Rumors go (at least as far as a Reddit article) that the other 13 gigs have to be downloaded.

So as the story goes assuming this trend continues which would you prefer. A game costing $10 more (rime/Minecraft story mode) or the game being split across the cartridge and a download?

That's so damn weird, does that means part of the game is already playable? But how does that work on an open world like this? Or maybe the whole game is playable from the cartridge but the installation makes the loading faster? Then why they put "internet required" on the cover?

Jeez...I want this thing to succeed, and I'm happy to hear that the launch went well, but there are SO many red flags for me that I can't envision a scenario where I'd ever own one. Seriously, in terms of "nish nish" design choices, and just general weirdness, the Switch has more eyebrow raisers than any portable or home console I can think of. This one isn't especially terrible, and is thus far an isolated occurrence, but requiring essentially 2/3 of your physical game to be downloaded is absurd. The only worse instance of this I can recall was the Tony Hawk 5 shit show. I'd rather pay more and have the full game on the cart. Also, an option to buy a non baby-proof edition of games would be boss. I realize it's a benign substance, but I don't want that crap on my games, rubbing off onto my fingers and whatnot. It's breakfast time!

From all the signs, if E3 turns out right this could be the perfect Nintendo platform. Nintendo is always strongest when they are using a handheld. Their first, second and third party should be amazing. The problem is the multiplats and as usual the despire to buy them gets gimped by either development or lack of third party interest. Regardless, there will be a lot of indies and if you want an indie at a decent price (given the right circumstances), it still might be worth the buy. Outside of that, the consoles sales will drive a ton of third party exclusives to be created. They will take this platform seriously unlike how they treated the Wii. It will be less costly to create good exclusives for the platoform. The switch taught me a great lesson with Zelda and Fast RMX. They dont need huge budget titles. They need fun titles that are exclusive and can only be found in one place.

I glossed over things I didn't like without mentioning most of them. Conversely, the Switch hits a lot of home runs. It's best games will be amazing, and the tech behind it is very impressive for a portable, which is how I would use it almost exclusively. I love the Vita, and was able to deal with it's worst aspects, so I thought the Switch would be a solid possiblity for me, with the only true obstacles being: I have too many games already, and I'm so tied into and satisfied with the PS ecosystem, that buying into another brand has lost some appeal. My friends, my profile, and most any game I want are already available to me. I will add one more thing to the negatives. The voice chat situation. That's a huge no for me. If Nintendo can get voice chat running straight off the system, that would be a big deal. I'm maybe, slightly less optimistic about it's long term success than you are, especially concerning 3rd parties, but my outlook for it's overall viability is positive. That Fast RMX looks tight btw.

"We're still no clearer why the game's box states it requires an internet connection, or 13GB of storage, but the suggestion here perhaps is that at least some of the game is playable without downloading."

In essence answering.. nothing. Specially since you added NOTHING and just left with a copy/paste of an article.

The part where they say you can still play the game without a download is clearly important

The extra cost is for handheld/console mode effort, I think

"Lego City Undercover publisher Warner Bros. has provided us with this short statement on the game's cartridge version, which suggests you will be able to play without downloading anything.

"Players who purchase Lego City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play," a company spokesperson told us."

You wrote: "Rumors go (at least as far as a Reddit article) that the other 13 gigs have to be downloaded."

But In essence they saying don't need to download 13GB you mentioned in OP to be played game.

Yes you just need them to play TWO THIRDS of the game. Not exactly a great selling point...

You just paid $60 for 1/3 of a game. One horrible argument you got there.

You dont know, only fact we know so far is that "at retail do not need to download the game to play".

Every multiplatform game that comes out on the Switch has the advantage that you can play it anywhere. There is no direct, apples to apples comparison to be made between the Switch and the PS4/Xbone IMO.
