Forums - Gaming - Why do some companies not reveal which platforms a game is being made for.

Because they want to see the highest bidder.

some companies are like that , they don't want to share info till their like 50% done with the game

It's because tri-Ace wanted to check with me first.

Wii exclusive confirmed!

I guess...

@Riachu

Then why didn't they announce it at TGS last year? I hope something pops up at E3 at least because this So4 platform business is really getting annoying.

@Soriku

 Maybe they just were not ready yet and you should be patient.  SE(well Tri-Ace) have a tough decision since the 360 bombed in Japan and the PS3 is off to a rough start (interms of sales) and only recently started improving.

Isn't it obvious? Its to build up hype. If they say its for one of the consoles, they'll get fanboy support from that console and get panned by the other two. Same if its only for 2 consoles. If its for all 3 then nobody is interested because there's nothing to argue/speculate.

So....what have you decided? :D

DS.

I simultaneously pissed off the Sony fanboys that thought they had the right to this and the Xbox fanboys that neevr cared about Star Ocean until they realized that they might have a shot at a Star Ocean by giving it to niether.

aHAhahahahahaha!!!

More! I want to ruin more lives!

Early on it is because they simply don't know ...

Most game developers do not start a project with a massive team of programmers and artists; they usually start with a handful of people who decide upon the direction of the project. After they decide upon the direction of the project they will need to get funding from their publisher; the publisher will offer feedback and the direction of the project will be changed. After the team begins "real" development, for several months the target platform can change (or new platforms can be added) ...

They've been working on this for over 2 years now >_> I don't get the secrecy.

 Star Ocean 3 was in development for three-four years before it came out.  How do you know that SO4 was in development for 2 years?

Do you want the company's to announce a game for one platform, you buy that system, then find out that for some reason, that version was canceled? That's why they usually withhold the platforms it will be on, until they are sure that those platforms will actually receive the game.

(That's my guess anyway...)

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

I think there are negotiations and planning stages going on whether to go multi-platform or exclusive. I think the delay points towards a multi-platform release, as they now have to look and see whether they can release it simultaneously and get the human resources needed. They dont want to commit which platform until they are sure they can release it for that platform.

Beacuse secrets are fun.
