Forums - Nintendo - How to get along with those clingy joy-con straps

After hearing about the fuss around this grip things, I tried putting them on my joy cons and... I hada hard time taking them off. It took some force to slide it off, but I think I'll just no use the things. Seems like it's more trouble than it's worth.

Are you sliding the slide lock in and out accordingly?

lol they should have a manual just for those fucking things, I figured them out pretty quickly but I can see people just breaking their joycons trying to get the fucking thing off.

I dunno. I feel dumb for saying this, but I'm not even sure if I'm putting it on correctly. I tried matching it with their proper symbols and again with the opposite ones. It was hard to take them off both ways.

That's the opposite you should do, use it more and it will be easier everytime, most people find this an issue cause they are afraid to break it, don't be afraid, it doesn't break, it just need force at first.

I dunno... I got kinda scared when I tried it. It needed a lot of force to take it off, and I feared I was going to break it. I may try again if I see how it is properly done.

I tried switch 3 days ago for the first time, it was new, my firend didn't even open the box until I came, when I put the straps I already knew that it would be hard to get them out thanks to internet so i just pushed without fear and it took me 2 seconds, I know why people would not be pushing it so hard just because they fear it will break, but it doesn't, i repeated this over and over and it didn't break and I think is totally worth it since it makes the joycons more confortable, specially the shoulder bottons. Just be sure to have the slide lock out.

Be absolutely sure people are sliding the lock OUTWARD! Please let people know that they need to slide the lock OUTWARD whenever sliding the straps on or off.

Are you pulling the slide lock? Please see the original post.

YES! This very much!

Slide locks OUT when sliding straps on or off!

I don't think many people have missed the lock. I know about it, and the straps are still clingy. Want to know why?

The bottom black wedges is the lock mechanism and that's what makes it clingy. When unlocked the wedges still give resistance and when slidding it requires you to tug the joy-con (notice you don't need to press the joy-con release button due to the wedge on the railing). Meanwhile the joy-cons easily slide off the grip and console (by pressing the release button).
