I live in Chile and here the thing is like 500 bucks so I guess market size is almost irrelevant, but I remember a lot of buzz for the ps4 launch at least. I guess USA and Japan is where the thing is hot |
You can add Canada to that list. Pretty sure it's all sold out here and going for 600-700 on amazon.ca

Was it? Now I look stupid :P. Still the logic still applies! It will eventually find success, but it just lacks a library. the difference with this and WiiU is Nintendo's full development team is focusing on one console this generation, rather then having to focus on a handheld + homeconsole, they only have to develop for switch now. |
The original DS is probably a better comparison.
It sold sold well but nothing amazing in its first 1.5 years but it really took off in Spring 2006 when the revision and a few big casual hits released.

Nintendo launches arent like their competition. They ship less in an effort to gain buzz off of scarcity. Sony doesnt use scarcity to create buzz, they create buzz by selling to as many people as they can. Its the exact opposite. |
Well they shipped 2 million units and its all sold out. How is selling 2 million units "quite"
| leo-j said: the scary thing is, yes it did sell out.... but one can argue that the ps4 might have done just as well during the big switch launch week...... the ps4 is outselling the switch on amazon.... |
The PS4 is a whole other animal. It sold better with less barriers around scarcity.

If people bothered checking, Nintendo stated they have manufactured plenty of Switch to cope with demand before it launched. Usually you get complaints of Nintendo restraining supplies, damned if you do damned if you dont i guess. |
So Nintendo said they will manufacture plenty and yet we have supply issues in the US. Something's not adding up.

Wii U did similar. Understanding history is why I am not flinching towards Nintendo, but I cant say I havent felt a tinge of impulse.

I'll say it again - it's not sold out everywhere.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Where I'm at, it's totally sold out, haven't even seen one, one of the many gamestops near my house has over 300 people on the next shipment call.
