From what I'm reading yes it can't be transferred by any means.

I believe other consoles have ways to backup your save file via memory cards or USB sticks etc...I dont have the Switch so i'm not sure if it's possible to transfer your saved files onto your SD card. If that's possible then yes you're correct and it shouldn't be a big deal.

You can transfer save files on PS4 through USB (had to do when the Minecraft achievements were bugged and had to erase my save files to get my platnium) or store them on the cloud if you have PS+. The former though you have to do ahead of time of course.

So all is needed on the Switch is saves on the SD card and/or cloud storage and this issue is fixed.

No. It has cloud storage.

I think it supports USB saving devices, too.

You can back it all up to a HDD, if you have Plus all save datas automatically uploads to the cloud, and I think you can transfer all data from one PS4 to another using an ethernet (i think) cable.

Simple and far more elegant solution: let us store save data on game cards for physical releases.
There, you solved the problem for people like me.

I assume that they're looking at online save backups as a potential value-added service, like a certain something The Pokémon Company runs.

This was known for some time now, what's with the sudden reactions? I guess it wasn't as widespread as I thought...

Welp, hopefully they'll add the option in the future, much like with the friend codes being temporary and becoming optional later on.
