Forums - Nintendo - The Concerns are gone, there's only space for greatness now

It's officially March 3rd right now here in Italy, specifically 0:13 PM as of me writing this line and I'm overwhelmed by my own hype, in the last few weeks I didn't spend much time looking at the clock thinking "come on, go faster, I need to play Zelda !" because, as I reported in a previous thread, I was concerned about Breath of the Wild beeing forgotten by the end of the year because of the great year that will follow its relase, more specifically, the other title that would tie with it by the end of the year as THE Nintendo game of 2017, Super Mario Odyssey, I don't know why but, even if I've played far more Mario games than Zelda games, I can't help but root for Zelda, it's Nintendo's most ambitious game ever, its development certainly took longer than the one for SMO and it just feels right.

So today with the reviews coming out for BotW I realized something: Zelda is outstanding, probably the most outstanding Zelda game ever, meaning that there's only one way SMO could become THE Nintendo game for this year: beeing the best game of all time by a LARGE gap and, if that was the case, how could I be upset about the new entry in one of my favourite series becomig the best game of all time ? It's time to stop speculating, it's time for greatness, it's time to play.

With the return of friend codes, concerns have just arrived!

Well I'm glad Zelda is getting good reviews but they should of had a better launch lineup besides the best game being a Wii U port. If they had a launch lineup like the NES, SNES, or GC then I'd be hyped.  I'm in the wait camp because honestly there isn't anything I want.

What? The concerns are still there, as I want to know about the long term support of the console.

The only concerns I was worried about were for Zelda (I honestly questioned if they could make an open world that appeals to Westerners). I'm not about to worry about anything else until I've thoroughly enjoyed the present over the coming month or two lol

Why is that in doubt? Switch is Nintendo's only generation 9 platform, so they will give it their all and also cut the price aggressively if that should be necessary. Switch is also in good position to take the lionshare of Japan's third party support. That's not going to happen immediately in 2017 because third parties are always cautious about putting their weight behind Nintendo platforms, but since Nintendo needs Switch to sell, they are going to make it sell; and that's how the third party support will come.

That doesn't seem very sound. If all it took was that, then the Wii U would have sold well.

Greatness awaits

The Wii U hadn't locked up Nintendo's entire support because the 3DS existed. With Switch there will be no such thing as "It's not doing well, but that isn't so bad because we have another platform that is going to be at the very least moderately successful." For 2017 alone, Nintendo has already confirmed four guaranteed systemsellers: Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon and 3D Mario. Since they'll introduce a paid online service this fall, it isn't farfetched that they are preparing a Deluxe version of Super Smash Bros. 4 for the holidays (an all-new SSB seems unrealistic this year).

The Wii U shouldn't be looked at as a parallel, because the circumstances surrounding Switch are very different. We already know that Nintendo is going to bring their biggest IPs faster to Switch than to any of their previous systems. Nintendo is very serious about this, because there is no other system that can serve as backup plan.

Well, they seem to have the 3DS right now as a back-up plan, so I don't really think that they're in a do-or-die situation right now.

How would that work as backup plan? All that's left for the 3DS from Nintendo are minor games that are being worked on by minor departments or outside studios. Nintendo's top teams are all working on Switch games and those couldn't be simply moved to the 3DS. Nevermind that the 3DS has entered its seventh year, so it's too old to sufficiently bridge the gap until late 2020 which would be the earliest point that Nintendo could realistically launch a new system. It would be a terrible backup plan, so Nintendo really has no choice but to give it their all with Switch.

I highly doubt that they haven't done R&D on a 3DS successor, even if they don't release it they probably already have looked into it. It would probably hurt them a lot, but with how everyone goes on about how much they have in the bank, they would probably be able to do it.

It's just looks. The game in nature, is VERY eastern/Japanese. You'll see when you start playing it(been playing the Wii U version for 2 days). Zelda started in Japan as an open world game on NES. They just expanded on this with inspiration from western developers.
