Forums - Gaming - Switch Pro Controller works natively on PC

Neat to see, though the price point puts the gamepad at an expensive sell compared to the others, Joycons as well. It would be nice to see the Joycons working with PC at some point as well as the tech in them is pretty decent.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

They obviously use the same drivers and API that for example the PS4 and Xbox controller use as they are also plug and play on PC. So there seems to be no technological reason to not be able to use a different controller on the Switch. Except of course if Nintendo is actively preventing it to limit choice.

so what option do you want? sorry but your complain seems a bit silly cause consoles are closed platforms and Nintendo is giving you their propietary options which are joycons, joycon grip and pro controller.

I want a different pro controller. Giving me 3 completely different things is not really choice when there is only one version of each thing to "choose" from. I have a perfectly fine PS4 controller that has the same buttons and apparently uses the same drivers. Why can't I use it?

It's just funny that both Pro Controller and Dualshock 4 work natively with PC but not on the other console. There is no technological reason for it. It's just that the platform holders don't want you to have that choice. It doesn't even work for controllers of the same brand. It's just that desperate need of absolute control of the platform owners.

I don't think this complaint is silly just because "it has always been this way". With that attitude nothing ever will change. As a famous person once said:

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Well that practically guarantees I get this controller then.

I like to use the same controller for all games if possible. Obviously keyboard/mice games are exception. So all my PC games that I use a controller for will be using this thing when I get it then.

well I understand what you're saying, and would be great for consumers but this is a capitalism "stuff" and not a console "stuff"

would be great to use the wii u pro controller instead of the more expensive switch pro controller but then that would affect sales of the switch pro controller, same situation with the other two consoles and that's why you can't use the 360 controller on the xbox one even if they are technically the same thing. You can use the wii mote on the wii u cause there's not a "Wii u mote" but if that was the case then would be the same situation.

PC is an open platform and that's why almost anything is possible, very different than consoles which are produced with a certain business structure.

I wonder if Joycons can be set to do the same, I'm shure they'd be amazing for VR games

If not, there'll be fan made drivers for it most certainly. I'm also hoping someone makes a tweakable driver for HD Rumble, that also features support for translating sound into HD Rumble (which was apparently software included for developers according to the leaked developer kit sheets). That would be awesome along with the abilty of spreading out your arms and playing relaxed.

I'll stick with my Wii U Pro controller.

That's convenient, I won't have to buy a dongle to get it to work like I did with the Wii U Pro controller.

I wonder if people can make HD rumble work on PC.........

And Yes! I would love for the Joycons to work on PC!

Pocky Lover Boy!

You can play with the current WiiU Pro controller on PC, but you need to install WiinUSoft
So it is nice to know the Switch's Pro works, even if it's just DirectInput
